We plan to use these hair accessories to establish a program called Books and Braids for our girls to encourage and provide a stress free opportunity to practice reading. Female students will read to us while we braid their hair. For the boys, we will establish Books and Looks, where we will style their hair while they read to us. Presenting one's self to your peers is an important part of determining your identity in these formative school age years. Having an adult take the time to brush your hair and make it look nice can make such a big difference in their self esteem! Not to mention the chance to improve reading skills by reading for fun! Your donation can help teachers connect in a meaningful way with students, that shows true compassion and care.
