  • iPad Access to the Art World

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

Just a quick note to thank you for contributing to the Ipad that my students use everyday! Most of my kids had never had any access to digital art and of course they have picked up skills lightening-fast. They have been learning about working in layers to build images with depth and contrast. Some kids have discovered how to create animations. I am hoping that one of my AP students will make work that is exclusively digital in the Fall. I can't wait to see the work that they will make next year. Have a great summer.”

  • Sketchbooks for Student Artists

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

You saved our virtual school year! The sketchbooks that my art students received were the key to making our projects and lessons safe and organized as students worked from home. Sketchbooks were given out to each student along with some basic supplies at the beginning of the school year and at the beginning of the second semester. When art students picked up their textbooks from other classes, they were treated to a brand new sketchbook, just like professional artists used. It was a lovely way to begin their studies.

Throughout the school year, art students and I were able to use the sketchbook instead of working on lined paper that kids had at home. We completed 8 projects in the sketchbook using pencils and colored pencils. Students studied cartooning, poster design, color theory, linear perspective, and contour line drawings. Most students will be back with me next year and they will be able to continue using the sketchbooks to create more work when we are back together in the fall. Thank you so, so much for making my job easier, and for giving my students an important and meaningful gift.”

  • A Drying Rack to Protect and Honor Student Art

    Funded Aug 29, 2019

We LOVE our drying rack! The rack came in hundreds of small parts packed in boxes. My 3rd period boys decided that they would put the whole thing together and they spent several hours making it happen. They learned patience and teamwork and how to express frustration while still perseverance. My students are making great strides and its because of you. Art kids now understand that their work that they do is precious enough to be preserved. They appreciate that art isn't finished when they are done working, but must be protected and shown to viewers in order to make an impact. We have worked on messy projects that I was afraid to introduce before we got the drying rack and engagement in art is ever-growing. All of my students are grateful for your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Field

A drying rack is essential to an art classroom that preserves and honors student work. Currently, my classroom has clothes lines that extend across the ceiling for drying projects. I want students to have pride in their own creative work, and I want them to know that their art is safe when they leave the classroom. I want student artists to see the art studio as a place where they can thrive, both creatively, and emotionally. I want them to be able to create a portfolio of their work that will help them gain admission to college, building a future where there are more artists, museum professionals, and art teachers of color. Ensuring this future begins with something as simple as a professional drying rack. Keeping their work safe and ensuring the craftsmanship of their collection of work will help students envision their own creative potential.
