Our special education students are struggling with math, reading, listening comprehension, executive functioning skills, food insecurities, mental health, and sensory needs. The supplies that you provide will help them be more successful in these deficit areas. The headphones will assist student with reading, and listening comprehension goals as well as sensory needs. The granola, candy, and other snacks will help our students struggling with food insecurities and behaviors reach goals as well as reward those students working diligently on their executive functioning skills (work completion, time management, prioritizing assignments). The folders, sticky notes, and writing essentials are going to be used to help students in my English, Math, Study Strategies, and Life Skills courses. They will be writing in all of these classes and journaling for their own mental health. There are a few sensory items in this request for those students with more of a sensory and mental health need. This will give them the stimuli to maintain focus and relieve stress. These items will help accommodate this special needs population and provide some comfort to students as they are pushed back and forth from in-person to remote learning. These items will help my already struggling students who have been impacted by the constant uncertainty that COVID has on their lives and the impact on their mental health. Thank you for helping me bridge the gap between uncertainty and a safe place to learn.
