My students truly need a bigger and more durable rug for them to sit on while we do our daily workshops for reading, math, writing, and other subjects too. The rug we have now in the classroom does not meet the needs of all students. I feel sad to have them so closely together so that everyone could fit, therefore, at times some have to sit on chairs. This makes it more difficult for them to interact during group or partner discussions because the students have to go to and forth from their chairs. The rug that we have currently is too flimsy and not suitable because it could easily be flipped, turned or moved, causing potential injuries. Some students almost slip and injured themselves when they walk across the rug. Lastly, most of my students need extra room to wiggle and move around. They have a difficult time sitting still. As a result, the flex chairs are also needed to accommodate students with sensory deficits. When teaching at the rug, I would like all my students to be able to sit comfortably without feeling that they have no personal space or the ability to wiggle or stretch their arms or legs. I feel that if they are able to feel comfortable during rug time, it would make learning for them more enjoyable and effective because less time is wasted in dealing with inadequate space and transitioning around the rug.
