  • Next Level PE!

    Thank you so much for the supplies. The parachute and the hula hoops in particular have had such a huge impact to my K0 -3rd grade classes we have gotten a chance to play hula huts and have parachute lessons with games like popcorn and sharks & rescuers. I also have found other ways to use these materials around the class room modifications to other games that the students already play such as star wars tag. The kick balls and additional dodge balls complemented the equipment that I already have really well. I appreciate all of the equipment I have received and I will continue to put it to good use.”

  • PE Spring Sports for Students

    Spring sports was a great project for my students it allowed us to explore the sport of football and baseball. The students were asking about football since I first started the job as there teacher. I was excited to be able to teach throwing and catching a football as well as chasing and fleeing with flags using the sport of football as the backdrop. During the create your own game unit a group of students re-purposed the flags and created a game called flag tag which i will continue to use with my classes in the future. I thank the donors for the equipment to explore these possibilities. The bats and tennis balls were essential to my baseball/ kickball unit it would be nearly impossible to teach this unit without them.

  • Knocking Out Ultimate Field Day

    I am excited to tell you that ultimate field day was a hit! I will be posting pics but I wish I had recorded the video of the students initial reaction when the saw what the "filed day surprise was" cheerful shouting and actual jumping up and down. The students played hard that day even though it was hot and sticky. I am proud of the fact that this project made middle school students actually jump for joy.

    I can not wait to bring Zorb balls to school for use in P.E. In the future i intend to pair Zorb ball games to the skills we are learning in P.E as partially additional practice and partially a reward for working hard on the skills. The end of the soccer unit for example we will play Zorb ball soccer. I will create new games use it as a motivator to keep my students engaged.

  • Inspiring Students to be Physically Active

    On Behalf of the students of the Hurley school I would like to thank the individuals who donated to my project as well as the Donors Choose organization as a whole. All of the equipment that was donated was and will continue to be put to good use in my class. Most noteworthy, in my opinion is the blue tooth speaker, which has brought music to my students during P.E and will make possible the upcoming dance unit. The basketball hoops, sport pinnies, and stop watches have also already been used to bring our physical education classes to a whole new level.”

Currently, as a school we have access to a limited amount of physical education resources and the equipment we have now is worn out, broken, or obsolete. As we transition into a new year and having a new gym teacher, it is essential that we try to revitalize students' excitement around physical activity and sports play. These rims, stopwatches, tennis balls, pinnies, and speaker will allow students to engage in new athletic exercises while also breathing life into our physical education program. Improving students' engagement during P.E. class may also make a difference in their level of active engagement outside of school. A child's education is only helped further when they are given ample opportunity to build healthier lifestyles and what better environment to do that in then physical education class!
