  • EJHS Garden Guardians - Growing Minds and Veggies

    Funded Mar 7, 2019

Thank you so much for all of your support! We can’t wait to build the shed and keep moving forward with our work, expanding our garden. The kids will be shocked to hear that in just a few days we were able to raise enough money to make this large purchase.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gallagher

  • Junior High Students Exploring the Smoky Mountains

    Funded Aug 4, 2016

Our STEM Club's trip down to Tremont in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park was a huge success! Our students had a great time participating in the academic and social activities, such as:

Geological Hike to a Waterfall - where students learned about the formation of the mountains and how the land has changed over time

Salamander Investigations - where kids found salamanders, made observations that inspired hypotheses about traits, and conducted research toward answering a testable question

Stream Ecology - found water critters (macro-invertebrates) and looked at them under a microscope, while using dichotomous keys to identify different species

Made friends - at nightly campfires where we sang songs, conducted skits, listened to a story teller, and ate S'mores

Tuckaleechee Caverns - wowed by the size of the cave and the interesting formations, students learned the history of the cave, drank fresh water (98.6% clean), and were curious about how plants were growing near the lights

Night hike - where students saw and heard things they normally wouldn't during the day time, they learned how to heighten their senses and learned a little about nocturnal animals and the adaptations necessary to be successful at night

Overall, the students left feeling more connected to nature and with a great sense of environmental stewardship. They are excited about the future of our club and love the idea of creating our own outdoor space near the school.

Your support has certainly fostered a love for science in these children and we can't wait to see where they take it.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gallagher

I am an 8th grade math and algebra teacher at Edgewood Junior High School. I am super-involved in our school, coaching the basketball, cross country, and track team. On top of teaching and coaching, I co-sponsor the STEM Club. We started this club during the fall semester of 2015. We had about 30 members initially. Since then, our numbers have nearly doubled, with new 6th graders excited about joining this fall.
