Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto!
Funded Sep 18, 2018I am overjoyed with your kind words and willingness to bring this idea to life. It is so exciting to be able to increase my students' understanding of coding using Dash and Dot. This year is going to be awesome and it was made possible by your generosity and selflessness.”

Presenting Our Work With Pride
Funded May 20, 2016Throughout the year, students were able to proudly print and display projects they learned in Technology class. Parents continuously praised the work that was being done in the lab and were able to see it all around them. Their love of learning was literally plastered on the walls.
In prior years, much of their work had been saved on the computer. While this allowed the students to reflect on their own work, they weren't able to share it with their friends and family. Thank you for enabling my students to tangibly show their families and peers their projects and hard work.”

Thirsty For Reading
Funded May 23, 2015Thank you for quenching our thirst! Class 5-225 is off to a great start this school year. Typically a school year launches with all things new: pencils, clothes, notebook, haircut, etc. Thanks to your generosity, my students were fortunate enough to begin the school year with brand new chapter books as well.
My students took a particular liking to a character named Geronimo. Because of your generosity, my class was treated to a whole new boxed set of Geronimo Stilton books. From the day our package arrived, the kids immediately began exchanging ideas and excitement about our new books. Geronimo Stilton is of high interest to them. The stories follow a mouse named Geronimo on many adventures and my class wasted no time joining him on them.
Other students in my class are interested in sports. The series that we received hooked a bunch of my students who typically were reluctant to read. They couldn't wait to begin learning about different sports and comparing notes with one another.
Another part of my projected included 2 copies of RJ Palacio's NY Times best seller, Wonder. Auggie is the main character in this tale of an ordinary boy born with an extraordinary face. We are currently reading this as a whole class read aloud and every day when I close the book, I'm met with groans and requests to read just one more chapter.
The main message of the book is "Choose Kind." This philosophy is extremely beneficial in helping to mold my young students into the best people they can be. A partnership with the Children's Craniofacial Association (CCA) has allowed us to take the words off the page and apply them to our daily lives. In a few weeks we are going to Skype with a real life Auggie and Via, his sister. I have already seen so many positive changes in each one of my students. They are learning that in life we encounter many things that may seem odd, or different. To overcome these challenges, the students have learned it is OK to ask questions, as long as we always remember to choose kind.
It has been a very rewarding experience to see the academic and emotional growth that has been brought out through our new literature. My class has taken our own student who has an extraordinary face and learned how to treat her as she deserves to be treated, like an ordinary kid. Without your generosity, these gains would not have been made. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you and congratulate you on living the message of our focus text, Wonder. "When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind" -Dr. Wayne Dyer.”
