My science lab is a disaster waiting to happen. I love to do lab work with my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, but we are a very small, rural school -I am the Science Department- and do not have the money to update the very outdated lab. Most my students come from low-income families and face many challenges at school and at home. Many have parents who went to this school and did not make it through high school, so my priority is to engage them in what they are learning and keep them in school. I have always found the best way to do this is by keeping it hands on and exciting! That's what science is anyway!
