Make it Make Sense! Behavior Skills and Sensory Needs

Funded May 10, 2022

Thank you again for donating to my project. My team and I are so grateful to have these resources to provide to our students at many schools across LAUSD. The tools that have gotten the most use are definitely the many fidget toys. Your donations have allowed our team to individualize for each student's specific needs. The students are so excited to be able to have so many options to pick from and everyone can find something in the sensory bin that works for them! The middle and high school students have especially liked the anxiety sensory strips which have been stuck to laptops, folders, under desks, and even jackets.

The Freddy the Fly and My Invisible Space Bubble books allowed students to dive into taking the perspectives of others and learn new social skills around noticing, measuring, giving and protecting personal space. These stories were able to benefit two classrooms with both neurotypical and neurodivergent students.

The iPad, case, keyboard and pencil have been instrumental in bringing social stories to students many schools. Students are able to read, participate with and create their own social stories. One student was able to create and record their own Minecraft themed social story detailing coping strategies and how to use them. They even got to record their voice reading the story!

Thank you again for your generosity and kindness!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Lobenstein
