In the upcoming unit, students will work in small, collaborative groups to choose a habitat of Georgia to research to design a three-dimensional replica of a shelter/home for the Native Americans found in different climates of the five habitats in Georgia. Independently, students will compose a narrative explaining how the Native Americans, animals, and plants survive in their chosen habitat. In their small collaborative groups, the students will act as Georgia historians as they present their shelter/home with their narrative explanation on FlipGid. Students will survey the second-grade classes (who are learning about the Creeks and Cherokee Native Americans) to determine which Native American shelter that they would live in if they lived at that time. In their small collaborative groups, the students would use that data to create a scaled bar graph. Students will provide one-step or two-step word problems that answer questions about the survey that was conducted. My students need supplies and assistance with the design and redesign of their habitats. My students are willing to think outside the box to sharpen their innovation, passion, collaboration, and critical thinking skills to prepare themselves for the needed twenty-first century skills. Please support us and assist in jump starting their future of STEM.
