Supplies For A Great Kindergarten School Year
Funded Nov 30, 2015I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your generosity and your interest in helping provide the items that my students needed this year.
I wish you were all there when the janitor brought in the carpet. The students cheered and clapped. When I unrolled it they clapped and cheered some more. The students named it the 'rainbow rug' and marveled at how soft and comfortable it was. The 'rainbow rug' has made things a lot easier during whole group instruction time. They each have a rectangle to sit on and there are no more complains, such as – She is touching me! I am squished! He won't move when I ask him to!! I can call on students based on the color they are sitting on (For example - If you are sitting on a blue rectangle, you may go line up. I would like everyone sitting on a red rectangle to read page 1, etc.) So it has become a good classroom management tool!
My students love doing projects!!! They are learning to cut with scissors, follow directions and use a glue stick. The gift of colored construction paper enables us do many projects and activities. The students made a portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, when we celebrated his birthday in January. We read the book 'The Mitten' and used the construction paper to make large mittens. We then glued the animals that used the mitten to keep warm in the correct sequence. In February, we made hanging hearts with the red and pink construction paper to decorate the room for Valentine's Day. We also celebrated the 100th day of school by making "I am 100 days smarter" hats, which the students wore proudly all day! We now have plenty of construction paper for all the projects that I have planned for them for the rest of the year.
The 2 pocket folders with prongs are essential items in my classroom. Learning to write the alphabets is very important in kindergarten. The folders come in handy to compile the practice pages that I run off for each child. The folders are also used for the students' journal. The poly folders are sturdy enough to use for students to take home and return their home work every week. In fact, they are strong enough to last the entire year. The stamp pads have given the students a different way to practice vocabulary. Instead of writing them, like they usually do, they can now stamp the words out in different colors. Lots of fun!!!
Thank you once again for your kindness and support for my students.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Dittmore
