  • Fast Computer That Can Run From School to Home!

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

I would like to express my gratitude to you for generously donating the Laptop and the webcam to our classroom. These devices are essential tools for facilitating knowledge, curiosity, investigations, academic and social skills. I truly cannot have reached my students to this extent without having this wonderful gift. My students and their families are so fortunate to have donors like you, who can help their teacher attain a current and dependable device.

My PK students are incredibly young learners (4-5yrs). The lack of life experience and to start their first school participation online was a challenge to them (and to me as well). They started their school year with learning to navigate through the world of ZOOM. The basic functions of "Muting", "Video On", and "Staying in Front of the Camera" are a few examples of how they had to learn to communicate effectively. We implemented quite a few hand signals to communicate across the online classroom. Having the two clear cameras helped them with viewing the teacher and the lesson/instruction at the same time. My students also learned to post their assignments on their online portfolios so that I can give them my feedback. They are also able to view their classmates work online when I post the completed assignments. This is great for peer modeling and for self-evaluating. Like any PK classrooms, they have their daily singing and movement time. This is all possible with everyone stretching, moving, and singing within the frames of the ZOOM windows. Students complete the day with grabbing their favorite stuffed animal or blankie and settling down to a "Quiet Story Time. Luckily, the large screen and the webcam allows me with have the luxury of a larger "Move Around Space" in front of the laptop and to see each other clearly.

Last, I want you to know that your donation has helped me become a better learner as well. As a PK teacher, I did not have the need to dive into the world of technology. In the past, I would have used it as a secondary resource for lesson plans. My curriculum did not necessarily require me to utilize technology devices as my main source of communication and teaching. Having this laptop allows me to easily transition to the full-time online teaching. Now, I can "zoom" effortlessly through ZOOM without hesitations. I can use the online teaching platform for my curriculum with confidence. The laptop is reliable and efficient. I do not have connection issues and it responds so quickly. Instead of investing my time on how to solve internet and hardware issues, my efforts are redirected towards my students and their learning experience. I have learned to add video clips, photos, books online, positive reinforcements, and digital assignments to my online lessons. I have learned and experienced so much through my laptop and there is still so much more to learn...

Once again, thank you for your kindness and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lunn

  • Umbrellas are Little Trees

    Funded Aug 11, 2018

Many thanks for helping us stay comfortable outside. We will enjoy the shaded areas that these umbrellas will provide. I will make sure that my students know that they were donated by concerned and generous donors. Our little ETK outdoor area will sure be the “cool” place to hang out.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lunn

ETK classrooms are required to provide outdoor playing and learning time. However, the weather in San Fernando Valley can get quite hot. Since school starts in August, we have longer periods of hot weather. Students still want to go outside, wether to paint some mammals, splash some reptiles at the water table, or roll playdoh into nutricious food. Umbrellas can provide an escape from the sun. The canopy that is being used doesn’t move. So the sun still can get one side of the outdoor learning area or the other. Outdoor umbrellas are mobile and they have a tilting mechanism. They can be manipulated to give the protection from the sun rays. Students will realize that they are just like tiny little trees. Except when the sun moves the “shadow”, we can move our little trees.
