Did you know that when students know where they fit in, feel safe, and have an orderly, clean environment, they do better in school? In my co-teaching classroom, I have several students that come into the room within a day. There are many diverse needs too. Not only will I be able to come to each group to work, they can help each other to understand and reach our academic and behavioral goals. They become a small community within our large classroom community! Additionally, the desks I presently have are so old that the bolts for tightening and adjusting them for student needs are not working. So many desk tops slam shut or cannot be raised or lowered to meet the size of the student. I also find that our janitorial staff cannot move all the desks each night to clean. In fact, it is rare for the desks to be moved for cleaning. With tables and chairs, we will also help keep the room cleaner by placing chairs on the tables each night to help ease the strain of cleaning so many classrooms.
