  • It's Center Time!

    Funded Aug 25, 2023

Center time is a vital part of a kindergarten classroom. Students learn best through hands on experiences. As a teacher I am constantly looking for new and engaging centers to keep my students learning while they are playing.

The tablets are a big hit. Students are writing sight words on them as well as practicing letter writing. Anytime we have new way to practice writing skills, the students are much more engaged.

The pop it games are great for small group lessons. They will reinforce the words we are learning to spell in our phonics lesson.

We use the stamp pads to spell sight words during center time.”

  • Learning While Playing!

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

Our student are loving all the center materials we received through this project! These items have been a big hit during our center time.

Currently we use our playdough materials to stamp sight words. We have also used them to stamp different letters we have learned.

We have used the stamp pads along with stampers to stamp our alphabet and will use it next to stamp sight words.

I love having these types of centers in our classroom. Students learn better through hands on centers. Thank you for helping our classroom be more hands on.”

  • Two Classes in One!

    Funded May 9, 2023

We are loving having two classes in one this year. The students are getting so much more assistance with two teachers in the room. They are also getting the experience each teacher brings to our classroom. We have set up our room to have double sets of everything. On one side of the reading room, we have all our reading materials. On the other side are all of our math materials. We have clipboards, white boards with markers/erasers, pencils and all the materials they will need during a reading or math lesson.

It has been so convenient to have all the same materials on each side. There has been no delay in getting students the materials they need during the lesson since they are readily available no matter where in the room we are.

It has been wonderful as well to have multiple items for flexible seating on both sides of the room. The students love using them.

Thank you for helping us be successful.”

  • Summer Learning at Home!

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you so much for helping my students. As teachers we always worry about the "summer slide" that happens so often to many students. When students are not in school and practicing the skills they have learned, they tend to lose some of those skills. I know these workbooks will help them stay sharp in their skills.

Summer is a break from the regular routine of school but making learning fun will help students and the extra items in the summer bags will make summer fun for them.

I could not do these things for my students without you!”

  • Adding to Our Classroom Seating

    Funded Jan 6, 2023

My students were so excited when I showed them the new seating options we had for our classroom! They couldn't wait to try them out. When I got them I also got new desks for our room from our Principal so our room took on a whole new look.

They love having so many options in our class now. Of course the wobble cushions, wobble stools and floor cushions are the first chosen everyday.

Each student is finding the seat that helps them learn the best and sits in that option most days. I was skeptical of flexible seating and how it would work when I first heard of it. But after using is for many years, I know it is the best option for students.

Thank you again for helping my students be the best learners they can.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schaffner

  • Just a Touch Away From Success!

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

In our classroom, students use laptop computers every day for educational programs that help with their academics. They log in to the computer using a 5 digit number and navigate the laptop to log in to their Classlink account and then into the program that we are using that day. For students that only have tablets at home, this is a big ask for kindergarten students. We are lucky enough to have QR codes they use to login into their Classlink account which helps tremendously.

For some one of my students even the 5digit number is a challenge. These students need to be able to just pick up these tablets and get started. That is exactly what they are able to do now!

They are able to get started without any help from a teacher. No more waiting for assistance getting logged in. Thank you for helping my students feel more independent and successful.”

  • Help Me Manage My Sensory Overload!

    Funded May 15, 2022

My students have been through alot in their lives so far. Covid shut down our country and sent many families in to rough situations. Parents were doing their best to keep their families safe and healthy but they were scared. So many of children suffered trauma during this time. They have not learned how to cope when with their emotions.

These sensory items help my students learn coping strategies to help them regulate their emotions. They enjoy using the sensory path to get out their energy. They know that we have a safe corner they can sit in as well. The sensory vests, headphones and bag are used when they feel completely out of control to help them calm back down.”

  • Kindergarten Summer Fun

    Funded Mar 1, 2022

My students were so excited to get their Summer Learning Bags. These bags allowed them to take home a journal, Summer workbook, crayons, and other materials that they could do at home over the summer. From another Donors Choose project I was also able to include several picture books that they could read with their families.

Keeping student's skills sharp during the summer is very important. Many times we have the "summer slide" that shows that students who do not practice the skills they have mastered. We hope that these bags will prevent that summer slide for my students.”

  • Building a Home Library!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

I am so excited for the books for my students. They did not arrive in time to give them at our Holiday Break so I will be sending them home later in the year. I will be making a bag for each student with their name and will put their books inside.

They love the opportunities they have to read books by themselves and with a friend. We use magnifying glasses as we read during center time to look for words we are learning.

They love when I read stories to them or we watch famous people read stories to us through videos.

I try to bring books to life for my students by asking engaging questions or connecting to something they are familiar with. They love when I ask them to predict what will happen next and wait anxiously to see if their guess was right.

Reading at home is so important and they will be so excited when they take home their own bag of books to share with their families. I hope to read all of the books we recieved in class as well. Thank you again for supporting the love of reading for my students.”

My students come to school at all levels and with different learning styles. It is important to embrace all of their learning styles so they can all feel successful. I work hard to make my class an active, hands-on learning environment. The students are excited to come to school each day and I embrace that excitement in my classroom. When they are excited to learn, they are like sponges and absorb the skills so quickly. Anything I can do to increase their excitement is top priority for me.
