The spelling program that my school has been using leaves a lot to be desired. It gives the whole class the same list (regardless of ability level) and expects them to move on to the next list whether they pass or not. It makes the kids feel defeated, and they don't gain an understanding of why words are spelled the way they are. My students need a complete set of the Words Their Way books for elementary students. Words Their Way is a program that uses a diagnostic test to determine exactly what level individual students are on. It will allow me to place each student where they belong as an individual and teach them the patterns within word groups.
