Glenview Project LIT Book Club: Booked, by Kwame Alexander
Funded Mar 6, 2018Thank you so much! We are thrilled to be doing our second Project LIT book club. I know the students are going to really enjoy reading Booked, by Kwame Alexander. We are looking forward to our meeting in a few weeks with students and community members to discuss a great book!”

Library Maker Space: Expanding the Reach!
Funded Oct 9, 2017Thank you so much for your contribution to our Maker Space here at Glenview Elementary. The students are so excited to work with the new materials. It's wonderful to finally have enough Little Bits for a large group of students to be able to work with them at the same time. Our Friday Maker Space Clubs in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade have really been creating some great projects. We are going to start working with the Sphero robots next. I can wait to see what the students come up with! It's so wonderful to watch the students take charge of their own learning, the way they do when working in the Maker Space area of the library.”

Library MakerSpace: Extending the Impact!
Funded Apr 8, 2016Thank you so much for your donations to this project! The additional Little Bits, Makey Makeys, and K'Nex have made such a difference in our ability to work with larger groups in the Maker Space. The addition of the Dash and Dot robots have been so much fun for the students! All of these materials are helping our students learn the essential skills of critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. They are also learning many technology related skills, through setting up the Makey Makeys and Little Bits, and operating Dash and Dot.
The students are so excited to have hands-on experience with these materials. Many of these items are pretty expensive, and they are not things that our families would be able to afford to have at home for the students to work with. The students love that even though they are young, with these materials they can create something of their own design.
We have several students who sometimes struggle with academics or behavior but when they are working in the Maker Space, they are excited, engaged, on-task, and learning! It is especially wonderful to see these students have a chance to shine.
We thank you so much for helping to teach the next generation of creators, inventors, and makers.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gregory
Library MakerSpace: Experiment, Learn, Create!
Funded May 1, 2015Thank you so much for your donation to our new Library MakerSpace. We have started a new after-school club (called the STEAM Club, for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) for 4th graders, and we have about 30 students who are staying after school on Tuesdays to learn, make, and create.
Next semester, we plan to expand our MakerSpace program to include another after-school club as well as lessons and project time during the school day. Many of the materials will be especially important in helping the library support our math and science curriculum. We will also be working with a group of fourth graders in the spring to help them prepare a project to take to a district level project expo.
The materials have been so helpful in helping our students gain real hands-on experience and actually see math, science, and technology concepts in action. For many students, it can be so much more helpful to actually see and feel a concept rather than just reading about it. We thank you so much for providing these materials!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gregory
