No Ink, No Print
Funded Aug 13, 2019It is with sincere gratitude that I thank you for your generous donations to my project! With the kindness of supporters like you, I can keep printing student work and display it throughout my classroom and the halls of the school.
I have a fantastic printer which requires a lot of ink. The ink supply goes very quickly, even with close monitoring of how much is printed! The students are proud to display their projects and I appreciate your help in making this a reality. Sometimes I tell the class I may have to print in black and white because my colored ink supply is low. I immediately hear groans and tell them I'm sure some generous donors will help us out. I think it is great that my students know what Donors Choose represents and how fortunate our class is to receive help from this wonderful organization.
Thank you again for your generous gift, I greatly appreciate it!”

Funded Mar 24, 2019I sincerely want to thank you for your very generous donations to fund my project! Keeping students healthy and maintaining a clean classroom is a daily job. My students were very excited to open boxes filled with cleaning supplies, they began cleaning immediately!
The disinfecting wipes are used daily to clean up after breakfast and lunch. Both are eaten in the classroom and the wipes keep the desks clean and sanitary. The hand soap is also used daily, as well as the tissues and paper towels.
The carpet cleaner is a student favorite. The students use it every time they see a little bit of dirt on the rug. After recess is a popular time to use the carpet sweeper. Other classrooms ask to borrow the sweeper all of the time. It gets a lot of use.
The air purifier has made a huge difference, the amount of dirt collected in the filter shows how much dirt is in the air. Students in all of my three classes have asthma and this has helped them to breathe easier.
Thank you again for taking the time to generously give to my classroom, I am extremely grateful!”

Funded Mar 25, 2019Words are not enough to express my gratitude for the generous donations that were given to support my classroom. Working in a school that is considered high poverty makes it challenging to secure the little extras necessary for daily learning. Donations and support from Donors Choose friends allow my students to flourish with the latest technology.
You may not think that a math teacher would need the use of a printer. Actually, the students and myself use the printer daily. The students work on projects and are encouraged to print the projects to display in the classroom and hallways. I use the printer to print task cards, game boards, and center activities that make math much more interesting to learn and practice. The ink for the printer is used very quickly and needs to be replaced more often than expected. I greatly appreciate the donation of ink so we can keep printing!
I also want to express my appreciation for the headphones. My students use their computers daily for instruction. When I am holding small group instruction the students use the headphones for quiet learning. They all express how comfortable the Sony headphones are, I have students come from other classrooms to use the ones from Donors Choose!
I will never be able to thank you enough for your kindness and generosity to my classroom. I am extremely grateful!”

Funded Jul 24, 2018It is with extreme gratitude that I would like to thank you for your generous donations to my Donors Choose project. Being able to purchase three fans became more meaningful than I could ever expect. Because of your kindness my students were able to "survive" a heat wave the beginning of the school year. The heat was so intense in my school and other schools without air conditioning, that the district took an unprecedented move and gave five half days of school out of the first eight days of school. Students wanted to be first into my classroom so they could sit near a fan. One day the school lost electricity and the first comment was, "No fans!" For three hours the class had no fans and the difference in comfort from the heat was quite noticeable.
I would also like to thank you for the ability to buy headphones for the students. Last year the students complained that the headphones, "hurt their ears." Many of the headphones did not work which left a shortage when I needed a class set for computer work. This year the students are commenting how comfortable the headphones are and are refusing to use any left from last year!
I would love for my donors to see my students in action using the fans and headphones. It has made a tremendous impact on their learning environment, which makes a tremendous impact on their learning. Thank you for your support for these wonderful students!”

Hooked on Books: Help Build a Fifth Grade Library
Funded Aug 20, 2015I would like to thank all of you for the extremely generous donation you gave to my fifth grade class, and the other two fifth grades in my building. It was very kind of you to take time and help the students at my school. I am overwhelmed by your giving and encouragement to support the children of Washington School. The students have told me they have never loved reading so much because of the "new books that are really good!" I could not have made my goal without your help! With your donation I was able to purchase a large number of reading books.
Here is a sample of some of the books I purchased:
I bought 80 copies of the book Wonder. The theme of the book is when you have the choice to choose right or choose kind, choose kind. This theme has also become the theme of our fifth grade this year. Every week I overhear classmates telling each other to "choose kind." Wonder is about a fifth grade student with a face deformity who faces multiple challenges from his classmates. Throughout the book he keeps a positive attitude and in the end the classmates rally around the boy and accept him as a fellow fifth grader. I wish you could see the excitement on the students' faces when we read aloud the book, the students beg me not to stop reading! The fifth grade teachers are witnessing the uniting of the three fifth grade classrooms through literature.
Another book that I purchased is Fish In a Tree, this will become the second read aloud of the year. This story is about a student with learning disabilities and how a new teacher helps her overcome her difficulties. Fish In a Tree will enable the fifth grade to use "growth mind set" as we read the book. Growth mind set is believing you can achieve through dedication and hard work. My students say something is "challenging," not hard. Instead of saying, "I don't know how to do it," they will say, "I don't know how to do it yet." My coworkers and I want the students to always see the positive way of difficult work.
I also bought multiple copies of books to use for guided reading (small reading groups), and for independent reading. I can honestly say that I have never witnessed the excitement the students have for reading that I have this year.
Your donation has made an extreme and immediate impact for the fifth grade students at Washington School. I hope the expressions on the faces of the students tell how fortunate we are to have your support. Thank you again for your unbelievable generosity!”
