This will be my first year teaching in 1st grade. I have been in Transitional Kindergarten for the past 5 years and I am so excited to start this new adventure. Our first Grade team has been asked to pilot flexible seating this next school year. As the years have gone by, we see more of a need for flexible seating because of the wriggly bodies and keeping kids engaged in the curriculum. Creating flexible learning environments in the classroom is described as a variety of learning environments that support personalization existing both in and out of the classroom. Comfort, choice, and learner ownership of space are key to developing effective environments. Varied seating options and technologies in flexible seating also support learners engagement.
