Six Flags, Here We Come!
Funded Apr 1, 2016The students of Mace's Lane Middle School just recently took their trip to Six Flags America in Bowie, MD. The trip was an absolute success. All of the teachers worked together to organize the trip and many parents volunteered to chaperon our many students. The students were well behaved on the buses as well as in the park. We received no complaints from any other groups or anyone from the park. Every time I saw a group of students from Mace's Lane, they were behaving and following all of the rules! They represented themselves and the school in an amazing way. I was so proud of all that I saw.
The students loved every part of the trip. Many of them had never been to an amusement park let alone been on a roller coaster before! It did rain at the beginning of the day, which shut down a few of the rides. However, once the sun came out, the students really starting enjoying themselves. Many of them are still talking about the Superman and Apocalypse ride! I got to ride one roller coaster with a few girls and they had such a great time. Even while waiting in line, we got to talk and learn more about each other!
At the park, students completed worksheets that had them use mathematics and physics when looking at the rides as well as participating on the rides. Students timed laps of go karts as well as described different types of motion and energy for the rides. Once back at the school, students had discussions with teachers and each other about how these different types of motion and energy work. It was interesting to watch them discover inertia and how it makes your body move in the opposite direction many of them thought it would! I hope that the experience along with the learning will help them to remember this information even better.
All in all, the students had an amazing experience. None of this would have been possible without your help and donations. You helped my students to have an experience they never would have had without you. We appreciate your donations and support!”

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
Funded Sep 7, 2015I would like to personally thank all of you for your contributions to the digital cameras for my classroom. It has been quite the journey working with the students to create the yearbook and the newsletter. Many of my students had never used a digital camera before, so it was a slow process to get started on our work. However, since the beginning of the school year, we have created one newsletter each month to give out to the community. The students have been able to pick topics that interest them and write about them. Students have been interviewing, taking pictures, writing articles, and creating a newsletter on the computer y themselves.
In addition to the newsletter, students have been taking photos throughout the school for the year book. This is going to be the first student created yearbook in a decade at our school! The students are loving the opportunity and are creating a fabulous yearbook so far! Thank you so much for help us out!”

Reading for Robinson
Funded Mar 9, 2015Thank you very much for your gracious donations for the books. My students were extremely excited to receive them. When they first arrived, we were still in another unit. Therefore, the kids could not read them just yet and had to wait. Many students were so excited about the books that they did not want to wait and were begging to take the books home!
The students are currently working in small groups to complete a novel study. Each day, the students rotate in their groups and do a different job. They are working as a team and using skills that they rarely get to use in the classroom. Their engagement in reading has sky rocketed thanks to this book!
Due to new standards, students are not required to read an entire novel. They are only required to read excerpts from novels and stories. Therefore, we are not given novels to teach in our classroom. Once I got the okay to use a novel, I just needed to get one, which is where you helped me out! The kids are finally getting exposed to reading a book which is improving their reading stamina and promoting life long reading! We are forever grateful!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Robinson
