Students who come to my STEAM lab LOVE working with coding, 3d printing and robotics. One of the easiest ways to interest young students to computer language coding is through play. Ozobots combines the looks of a Star Wars type droid and the functionality of art class creativity to produce a tiny robot that is completely programmable to create drawings, sounds and games. Learning takes on a whole new dimension as students use Blockly JavaScript on chromebooks or iPads to program their robots to perform drawing tasks on paper, complete mazes and sounds. Ozobots addresses all ability levels and taps into students' curiosity and exploration by introducing coding with markers and paper before moving to the computer. Brand new Ozobot features encourage creative thinking and social interaction in students. The new hardware inspires collaboration when multiple Evo bots are brought together, they can communicate and interact each other. Overall, Ozobots can continue to build my STEAM lab into a true Maker lab for younger students who would normally have to wait till 7th or 8th grade to work with advanced coding.
