  • Lab Supplies for an Inquiry Classroom!

    Funded Nov 29, 2024

They you for the many supplies you helped purchase. My classes are able to conduct labs and learn through performing experiments instead of just reading about it. Science is way more fun this way!

Thank you to the Maxwell/Hanrahan foundation and all are sponsors! Because of the donation my AP kids are able to study earths ecosystems and model global warming!

The chloride wipes will help students take care of their own spaces and learn responsibility!

Again thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hornke

  • Future Water Quality Experts!

    Funded Nov 8, 2023

I have been able to take these kids with us on trips into the field to test rivers and ponds! Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity! I will be able to help give kids science experiences for a while!

I have been able to give this experience to sixty kids so far. I'll be able to continue this in the upcoming school year and will be able to reach another one hundred kids. They love to be able to be "real scientists" and perform experiments in the field.

Again, thank you so much for helping provide students with the chance to be scientists!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hornke

  • Creating New-Age Farmers Using Hydroponics

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for the amazing hydroponics growing stand. We have several vegetables and spices growing right now. This has greatly been impacting my students as they see how plants start as seeds, germinate, and are growing into food we can eat! They helped assemble the structure, start the seeds, and transplant them. I will continue to allow them to grow vegetables as the year goes on.

This hydroponics stand will be functional from year to year and has the ability to impact so many students. I plan to couple this with an outdoor garden allowing students to design experiments and be able to compare the growth in each.

Again, I can not express the gratitude I have for supporting my class this way.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hornke

  • Encouraging & Motivating Essential Skills in 9th Grade

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for your support in providing my students with the supplies they need to be successful in High School 101! Many students were able to use the headphones to complete the Microburst Softskills training that is so essential to being successful in their high school and future careers. The headphones are allowing them to listen to the lessons without disturbing others. Many would have to put their head and ears closer to the speakers on their laptops because they did not have headphones. This kept them from watching and reading along to the lessons. Now they do not have that impeding their education!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hornke

  • A Once-in-a-Lifetime Beach Trip

    Funded Feb 14, 2020

I would like to express my biggest appreciation for helping me being my students on this amazing trip. Every one that I spoke with said that they had an amazing trip and want to do it all again! We were able to muck around in the marsh, learn about the erosion on the island and how it has shaped the island, dissect a shark and learn about its species, handle some really cool reptiles, and best of all, we were able to grow bonds between students and teachers! My students, upon their return to the school, have to talk about the trip with their classmates and have encouraged them to go next year. I have been able to reference parts of the trip and relate to topics we discuss in class. The hands-on learning they have experienced is so important to them relating our units of discussion to real-life. Again, thank you for allowing this opportunity to happen.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hornke

Ninth grade students are required to take High School 101, a course that teaches skills necessary for a smooth transition into high school. The course teaches skills that help our students be successful in high school, college and careers after school. We teach motivation, time management, healthy living, goal setting, soft skills, financial skills, resume writing, and have our students research careers and colleges. Many of our units incorporate programs that require listening to online lessons. Many of our students do not have headphones that are compatible with the laptops they are given from the district. These headphones will allow them to listen to the lessons without bothering nearby students. They can be brought to class when we are in-person and used at home when we are virtual. We have already had to go through both situations this year!
