Our classroom has concrete floors and is missing a cozy and inviting area rug where we can meet together as a class to read books, discuss important concepts, and learn from one another. A large, beautiful rug will provide this necessary space where students are in close proximity to the teacher and highly engaged in learning. As many of my students are English Language Learners, I have found that art projects are an excellent medium through which students can express themselves when they may not yet have the words to do so in English. Having paints and crayons in colors that reflect the diversity of my students' skin colors is important so that they can accurately portray themselves and be proud of who they are!
