Keeping House
Funded Dec 19, 2024The student were so excited seeing the boxes delivered. The questions were, "What's in the box?; Is it for us? Can we play with it?" They were so ready to use the items, we had to take turns in the area, because the space could not accommodate all students at once.
Students are using the table settings and food items to set the table, correctly and prepare meals according to the 'My Plate ' servings. Four students sit at the table and others 'cook' and 'serve' the meals. It is so interesting to see the children interact with the materials.
Our goal is for all students to be able to set the table and prepare meals according to the 'My Plate" food servings. We discuss all kinds of foods and foods they may not have heard of or tasted before. It gives the children a chance to think about trying new foods. New ideas are happening each day in the Dramatic Play area with our food prep and table settings.”

Funded Nov 28, 2023When the boxes arrive the students were so excited, asking what's in the box? Can we play with it now? We unpacked the boxes and talked about what the kit was used for and how we would use our materials. Each child had a chance to touch and explore the items in the box. They were set aside for a small group setting later.
The small groups were so excited to get started. They talked about who was going to build the longest road, the shortest road, and who was going to be first getting to the end.
The children practiced taking turns and working together to meet a common goal of building a road to get a truck filled with a colored marble to the end of the road. The marble was dumped at the end showing their success of the task.
Seeing the excitement on their faces and hearing the excitement in their voices was priceless. These kits were/are a great addition to our classroom building area. It also helps improve there thinking skills as they have to think through making the correct path to get the desired results.”

Funded May 9, 2023We have received our shoebox containers and have already started organizing our materials and toys. Our toys are so easy to see and select when it's center or activity time. Things are contained and in one place.
The children were so excited when the boxes arrived. They constantly asked what's in the boxes and wanted to open them immediately. We had to hold our curiosity until a break. At that time the children opened the boxes easily, and wanted to immediately put materials in them.
As we are approaching the end of the year, the students will be able to pack toys and materials for the next year. Some materials and toys that were not being used were put away quickly. The children were able to stack the boxes neatly on the shelves.
This organized set of boxes lets the children be more independent when finding the materials they need and want. Thanks so much.”

Funded Dec 13, 2021My students were so excited when the boxes arrived. They were guessing what was in each box because of the size of the box. They decided that the sweeper/mop was not in the boxes because none was long enough. After opening the boxes it was determined that the sweeper/mop had to be put together. The students quickly figured how to attach the handle pieces. One student figured out how to attach the clean sheets and went to work dusting the floor. It was great seeing how excited they were to 'clean'.
The students are taking a bigger role in cleaning up the floor after spills. We eat breakfast in the classroom and our tile floor can get messy with spilled milk and cereal. Today, especially, one student was ready to clean up milk he had spilled. This is teaching them the responsibility of cleaning up behind themselves. There were no complaints about cleaning the floor. Other students even wanted to help.
The next step is to help them help each other with the cleaning and I take a smaller role . The students know where the materials are kept and they are easily accessible.
Just supervising while the students do the work of cleaning and replacing the cleaning pads will be my goal.”
