  • We Can't...YET.

    Funded Jan 4, 2022

With your generosity, my students have been able to access materials that promote a math education that is both engaging and hands-on. The multiplication sliders and division dry erase boards have enabled each child to further interact with their learning in ways that would otherwise be more challenging. Project-based learning has been at the forefront during the final semester of this school year and they used these materials to help determine areas and perimeters applicable to mini geometric cities they designed over the course of three weeks!

The fact that students are experiencing an education that has been uniquely restricted these last few years is bringing along with it unprecedented challenges. However, tackling mathematical topics that can engage learners has helped my group of twenty-three fourth graders come together in more ways than I would have originally anticipated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Putnam

  • Future Scientists of America!

    Funded Mar 19, 2021

With your generosity, my students have been able to access materials that promote a science education that is both engaging and hands-on. The Mystery Science boxes have enabled each child to further interact with their learning in ways that would otherwise be more challenging.

The fact that students are experiencing an education that is uniquely restricted this year is bringing along with it unprecedented challenges. However, tackling scientific topics that can engage learners has helped my group of eighteen fourth graders come together in more ways than I would have originally anticipated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Putnam

  • Embracing the Socially-Distant Classroom!

    Funded Jul 28, 2020

With your generosity, my students have been able to access materials that promote an education intertwined with messages of empathy and anti-racism. The post-it notes and textbooks, alone, have allowed me to send home supplies that enable each child to further interact with text in ways that would otherwise be more challenging from one screen to another.

The fact that students are experiencing an education that is uniquely confined this year is bringing along with it unprecedented challenges. However, tackling topics that can unite classrooms, even communities alike, through becoming better educated (because adults can use it, too!) has helped my group of twenty-seven fourth graders come together in more ways than I would have originally anticipated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Putnam

  • I Can't...YET.

    Funded Jul 8, 2020

Thank you for your utmost generosity towards our project! The students have been able to utilize the materials on a remote level that has helped make the beginning of the school year a more engaging transition.

When the students first feasted their eyes on the materials they lit right up, based on our discussions using Google Meet after the fact. Kits were sent home to each student that had the appropriate materials to move ahead with this project.

Again, your generosity has helped make this project a reality and the students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Putnam

  • If it's Not Broken, Fix it Until it is!

    Funded Sep 24, 2019

The moment our classroom phone rang and the school clerk said, "You have Amazon packages here!" the students couldn't contain how ecstatic they felt. A few volunteers assisted with opening the boxes and meticulously placing materials on our large kidney-shaped table for small group purposes. (Today, it was for "show and tell" purposes.) Seeing those air propellers and plastic wheels were only the tip of the iceberg. They knew exactly what each component's purpose would be.

Having extended such generosity to the fourth grade science block, you're made elevated engineering projects possible in ways that the school budget cannot. As depicted in the six screenshots, we have been able to successfully build, test, and race air propeller cars that coincide directly with our curriculum on forces and motion. The level of excitement when getting to witness these prototypes in action was priceless. Our next, and current, project is to design Judobots that place emphasis on hydraulics with the syringes that you funded for us!”

    Mr. Putnam

  • Visual Literacy to Promote a Life-Long Love for Reading

    Funded Jun 3, 2017

The generosity extended to our classroom has resulted in an improved classroom climate! Each day, 26 bright young minds are able to enter an atmosphere that fosters themes they love (or have grown to love), only enhancing their learning experience, in turn.

By having the materials donated, you have allowed the addition of a whole new dimension to blocks of guided reading and writing workshop. Students are able to engage with text that emphasizes 21st century skills and builds greatly upon strategies of reading that they've fostered in their schema of reading and writing.

Again, your generosity has made this school year already a unique one, to say the least. Your generosity has helped make reading and writing FUN for students who may need that extra "push".”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Putnam

  • Our Classroom is a Galaxy Far, Far Away...

    Funded Aug 13, 2017

The generosity extended to our classroom has resulted in an improved classroom climate! Each day, 26 bright young minds are able to enter an atmosphere that fosters themes they love (or have grown to love), only enhancing their learning experience, in turn.

By having the materials donated, you have allowed the addition of a whole new dimension to blocks of guided reading and writing workshop. Students are able to spread out to areas such as, "Millenium Falcon" or "Dark Star" (as to avoid using the actual movie title, 'Death Star", for obvious reasons). This enables proper grouping of students in a way that is self-guided and engaging.

Again, your generosity has made this school year already a unique one, to say the least. Your generosity has helped make reading and writing FUN for students who may need that extra "push".”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Putnam

  • Reaching New Heights in the Digital Age!

    Funded May 4, 2015

It is with much gratitude that I write this letter as a big THANK YOU for your level of consideration and generosity. Your donation has provided my students with additional tools necessary for pushing them further into the digital age, an age rich with technology and advanced means for doing things with more efficiency and active engagement while learning.

Our math and language arts blocks have benefited from the products you've provided, specifically the iPad Mini and 5 Kindles. Not only has student participation increased during the launching point of various daily lessons, but this growth in participation has become an enthusiastic constant.

Combining the iPad with our pre-existing Interactive Whiteboard and Apple TV, there have been a plethora of apps used, including the likes of Splash Math, BrainPop, Evernote, Plickers, and Post-It Plus. These applications have allowed students to interact during lessons in ways not previously practiced. One of these ways that has been of particular interest is the Skitch app, taking pictures of student work and then manipulate the writing/math piece with an array of colorful tools that allow emphasis for areas of strength and those requiring improvement.

Using the Kindle technology has greatly assisted Reading Workshop, where units of informational text and realistic fiction have been a struggle for some learners. However, tools found on the Kindles like "Wordwise" enable English Language Learners to immediately access vocabulary they have difficulty with and make more sense of what they are reading. Partner reading has also been more fluid by this very same reason.

Again, your generosity has helped make a substantial impact on our classroom environment through both academic and social outlets. I am sure that I don't have to tell you the struggle it can be to get the desired amount of materials necessary to make daily activities fruitful for the wide range of learners any given classroom holds. That being said, these products have made a sizable dent toward moving effective, 21st century instruction in the right direction for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Putnam

Full of life and coming from an array of ethnic backgrounds (African American, Pilipino, Cambodian, Vietnamese), my students' personalities only promote the diverse day-to-day experiences. I'm blessed with a group that arrives each day with renewed enthusiasm for the learning ahead and learning styles that consistently compliment those of their peers. The class is about two-thirds male, which can often result in hyperactive situations that stem from engaging with the Smartboard, participating in highly requested math center games, or the favorite "Brain Breaks" that occur in the morning and afternoon. The "personalities" I speak of are spread across a spectrum that command team effort, a student-led environment where assertiveness, rigor, and accountability are demonstrated through communication and a limited dependency on their teacher.
