Art Materials for Amazing Artists!
Funded Dec 30, 2021The materials that I have received in this order are being used to create art projects that have been inspired by books! I start almost every art lesson reading to my students. It may be a nonfiction book about a famous artist or a fiction story that the project will be based on! For the bird picture, I read stories to my Kindergarten students about birds. Chicken Little was a fan favorite! For the concentric circle project, I read my students a biography about Wassily Kandinsky called, The Noisy Paintbox. The book tells the story of his life, as well as, introduces the art work of Kandinsky. The concentric circle painting is one of his most famous. For the fish bowl project, I read several fish stories to my first graders. They loved the Big Al book.
I try to expose my students to as much literature as possible. When they finish early, I have a long shelf of books for them to explore. There are drawing books, books about Art, and books that go along with the season. My students enjoy using these books to further their drawing skills or just relax on my carpet and read with a friend.
My students and I are grateful for your generous donation that will allow many beautiful art projects to be created in the art room!”

Learning about Artists from Many Cultures!
Funded Oct 21, 2021Thank you so much for the wonderful books that celebrate artists from all different backgrounds and cultures! The books have been added to my classroom library and are being enjoyed by all my students! I am excited to discuss these new books with my students and introduce them to artists they may not know. I plan on developing lessons inspired by these amazing artists! Teaching in a school with a very diverse population, I feel it is important for my students to be exposed to a variety of artists who represent different ethnic groups. These books will help my students see that anyone from any culture can be an artist!”

Funded Sep 21, 2021Thank you so much for all the wonderful printmaking materials! My students were very excited to see all the different materials and learning about how to use them. We are using the materials to make Holiday cards for the Veterans Home near us. Thank you for providing my students the opportunity to create art for members of our community! In February, my older students will use the printmaking materials to create a series of monolith prints using various texture tools to create one of a kind prints. I am excited to see their reactions as they create their own series of prints!”

Funded Aug 23, 2021The light boards have been a welcome addition to my art room! Trying to share only 3 light boards prior to this wonderful donation was a challenge. Assignments that required students to transfer their work from a rough sketch to a final drawing paper took away many precious art minutes because students had to wait in line. Now, with the additional 10 light boards and plugs, students can transfer their sketches quickly and move on with the project!
Students are very impressed with the 3 light settings on the boards and enjoy experimenting with different amounts of light. They also like the slimline design that makes them very portable around the classroom.
Most of my students have never used a light board before. They were unaware that their drawings could be transferred onto another piece of paper without having to draw the image all over again. They liked the idea that they could draw something in their sketch book and not have to rip the page out to duplicate it. The light boards have been a big hit with all my classes!”

Pictures to Inspire Young Artists! 🖼
Funded Mar 6, 2020The addition of a color printer to my art room has been WONDERFUL! I have been able to use it in many different ways. Since many students are learning from home, I have not been able to display their art work in school. Now, when they email a picture of their project, I am able to print it out in color and hang it on my bulletin board outside my classroom! The printer has also been a great help for printing out images that students want to use in their art projects. It is a valuable tool when a specific image is needed to reference.
Students rarely get to see pictures printed in color! That has definitely been something that has excited students. We recently wrote letter to the glass artist Dale Chihuly. Students were able to include color pictures of the projects they made and pictures of Chihuly's art in their letters.
The printer has allowed me the opportunity to quickly access photos of reference pictures for students. Before, they would need to wait until the next class period for a picture, as the printer was down the hall from my classroom. Now they can develop their creative project while the idea is fresh in their mind!”

We Are "Art Smart" With Digital Books and Sketchbooks!
Funded Dec 8, 2020The students are thoroughly enjoying both the sketchbooks and digital resources! The sketchbooks have been a lifesaver throughout this pandemic! Students are able to complete their assignments all in one place. They are able to have a record of all the "pandemic art" they have created!
The students were extremely excited when they saw the sketchbooks and the digital books that they could access. Many of my students have never had their very own sketchbook. I talked with them about how to use a sketchbook, and that it is a visual diary of their projects and ideas. It is something that they can refer back to and use in their future art projects.
Currently, students are using the sketchbooks to create work inspired by the artist Keith Haring. They used the sketchbooks to draw gesture drawings, which they then used to create a multiple line contour drawing. The students enjoyed drawing me while I posed for them! They also had the opportunity to use light boxes to transfer the image onto another piece of paper.”

Art Books Rock!!
Funded Mar 6, 2020When I showed my students the new art books, they couldn't wait to look at all of them! They were so cute asking each other to pass them a new book to look at! The book order came with a lovely display box, so I was able to place all the books in there for the children to select from. I showed each class what was in the box and how they could use them. What a HUGE hit that box is! Students immediately starting drawing the animals, superheros, and cartoons that were in the books. They were so excited to show me what they had drawn! My students also love origami. It was so great to see them working together to follow the pictures in the books to create an origami figure. I plan on having the box readily available for students to use whenever they have completed the day's assignment. All the materials are helping my students practice their art skills in a fun and creative way. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Funded Feb 20, 2020My students were so excited to see all the new materials for my art class! They couldn't wait for me to explain what they were and how to use them. I used the ink and Japanese bamboo brushes with one of my fourth grade classes. I demonstrated how to hold the brush and make the bamboo stem, leaves, and flowers. My students had such fun trying to make their own bamboo plant and kept on trying until they felt that they were successful! They were very proud of themselves and asked me to find Japanese words that they could write on their artwork! I plan on continuing this lesson with my other fourth grade classes, as well as, with my art club which meets once a week before school. The Gelli plates will be used for a printmaking lesson with my fifth graders. They will learn printmaking techniques and vocabulary in order to create a composition incorporating several of their monoprints. Thank you so much for funding my project and giving my students the opportunity to use these wonderful new materials! Your kindness and support are truly appreciated by this grateful teacher!”
