Laptop to Empower a Math Classroom
Funded May 8, 2015I am deeply humbled by your generosity to my project "Laptop to Empower a Math Classroom." My life as a teacher who is actively planning lessons has greatly improved due to the access of a good laptop at my fingertips. Each lesson I create takes me about 3 hours. There are a total of about 20 lessons I have created on this fabulous machine which would be a total of about 60 hours of work. In my old machine, I have frustratingly lost several hours of hard work because even after saving the lessons, the old machine would suddenly crash. I have used this laptop to not only plan lessons for my students, but create study guides, class notes and homework, as well as correspond with students' parents via emails, to name just a few of the vast uses of this laptop. A very big use of the laptop has been to keep my webpage fully updated for distance learning by my students so that they can have all my materials at their fingertips even when they are at home.
After the laptop arrived, my students began using it immediately and have already had so much fun with it! They have used the laptop to work on math application problems, and to look up answers to questions during our discovery activities. Students work harder during class so that they have a chance to use the laptop to create mathematical models, manipulate graphs and use interactive mathematical tools online to simulate real-world mathematical phenomena. Pictures speak a thousand words and you can see by the pictures I have uploaded how my students are benefiting from your generosity.
My students were so excited to know that people they don't know gave money to help get a laptop so they can learn better. My students have started brainstorming for ways to give back to others. Hopefully we will decide on a way to pay it forward soon. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for providing me the tools to be more successful in my classroom.
Once again, thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Anton
