Inspire Curiosity, Wonder and Awe in TK
Funded Apr 2, 2024The inclusion of sequins, foam shapes, feathers, gems, and various collage materials in our transitional kindergarten classroom has a profoundly positive impact on our students. These diverse art supplies empower our young learners to explore their creativity and self-expression. As they engage with these materials, they develop not only artistic skills but also confidence in their ability to create unique and imaginative art pieces. This hands-on experience fosters innovation and allows each child to communicate their thoughts and feelings in vibrant new ways.”

This classroom project was brought to life by LOFT.Hands Are for Learning in Tk
Funded Feb 27, 2024In our classroom, we love using blocks to explore our creativity and imagination. Recently, we embarked on a fun classroom project where each student was given a set of the colorful blocks, you donated, to build their own unique structures. It was amazing to see how each child approached the task differently, some building tall towers while others creating intricate buildings. The room was buzzing with excitement as the students worked diligently on their projects, each one eager to show off their creations.
When the students first laid eyes on the materials, their faces lit up with excitement and wonder. The blocks sparked their curiosity and before long, they were fully immersed in the activity. There were gasps of amazement as their structures began to take shape, and the sense of accomplishment was palpable in the room. It was a delight to witness their creativity flourish as they explored the endless possibilities that the blocks offered.
As we move forward with our current classroom project, the next steps for the students involve collaborating with their peers to create a collective masterpiece using the blocks. This collaborative effort will not only foster teamwork and communication skills but also encourage the students to think outside the box and expand their creativity even further. By working together towards a common goal, the students will learn the importance of cooperation and compromise, all while having fun and creating lasting memories in our classroom.”

Light Up Our Learning in Transitional Kindergarten
Funded Nov 26, 2022Since receiving our light table we have used it as learning tool for open play, academic learning, sensory integration, and scientific discovery. The lighted surface draws kids in and enhances the learning process. Children learn best visually. The light table makes the visuals the main feature of whatever lesson your child is learning. This also enhances the colors and provokes your little one's imagination
It improves their observation skills by encouraging them to notice the subtle details on materials that are presented on the lighted surface which they otherwise would not have been able to see. The light table provides the perfect fun learning opportunity for creative tasks, fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, and pre-writing skills.
It helps improve problem solving skills, spatial awareness, language development, and pattern and color recognition. It has helped the students increase their attention spans because light tables naturally draw kids in with their glow.”

Book Bags for Tots!
Funded Dec 2, 2020The book bags we received have helped my students have the opportunity to have a place to place their library books for safe keeping while these books travel back and forth from school to home.
The children were so excited to see the beautiful clear bags that allowed them to see the book cover. They couldn't wait to take them home and share their books with their families.
I want to teach the children to have a sense of responsibility while managing their own book bags and remembering to bring them back on the due date.”

Funded Mar 11, 2017With my brand new round tables. I was able to set up engaging learning centers that allow my children to develop appropriately. Through these centers my children are encouraged to play and explore their environment for selfish and social reasons as well as academic ones. When used for all of these purposes, learning centers are an important part of a balanced Transitional kindergarten class. At one of the tables I set up a Reader's Theater Learning center. It really allows children to be themselves. They become more open and engaged, more comfortable with their surroundings. At another table I set up a Games and Puzzles center. Students are interacting while they are playing. It allows children to understand the social world, develop communication skills, and build relationships. At the third table I set up my Names Center. Students are practicing writing their names. This allows children to feel satisfied by completing purposeful activities.”

Dual Immersion TK's Learn and Play-Part 1 (DramaticPlay)
Funded Sep 16, 2015Through the use of play kitchen appliances, house cleaning set, play food, and puppet theater the children received they are learning about themselves and the world. They are experimenting with role playing and work to make sense out of what they've observed at home and in the world around them.
The children are also developing important complex social and higher order thinking skills. Pretend play requires advanced thinking strategies, communication, and social skills. Through pretend play, the children are learning to do things like negotiate, consider others' perspectives, delay gratification, balance their own ideas with others, develop a plan and act on it, express and listen to thoughts and ideas, and assign tasks and roles.
The children get to play 'grocery' store. They sort by attributes as they group similar foods in sections of the store, use math concepts to tabulate amounts as they determine prices, experiment with shapes and weights as they organize the store, work collaboratively as they assign roles and play together, and much more.
The students always look forward to play time with so much enthusiasm as they know that it is their time to make their own choices and play creatively.”
