Not to sound cliche, but I have the best fourth/fifth graders ever! As a special education teacher in a 12:1 self-contained classroom in the South Bronx, I feel so much pride in seeing my students really enjoy art, writing, reading, and technology in my classroom. It is amazing to see many of my students who have low fine motor skills and emotional/ developmental delays express themselves. However, we are in the nation's poorest school district and my students can barely afford to purchase their own school supplies. I buy most of the supplies out of my own pocket (which I don't mind because they appreciate it so much). Over 95% of the student qualify for free lunch and over 95% receive public assistance. Knowing the future of my students depends on it, I try to provide as much opportunities to let their creativity out!
