  • Banking on Good Decisions

    Funded Dec 11, 2024

Every good book opens up new dimensions of thoughts for the reader. When you read a book, you somehow try to connect the events, emotions, experiences, and characters in the books with yourself .So, with every page that you read, you may have a chance to discover a new part of yourself!

For My students that have a limited access to books, especially finance and books about money, these items are a game changer. It could be the difference of a life of comfortable living knowing how to save and get loans and handle the money they will undoubtably earn or a struggle to know what to do and how to stay safe. This could also be a generational change in their family, and they deserve every opportunity I can give them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mahan

  • ¡¡Nos Encanta Leer!

    Funded Oct 24, 2024

It is often written about the great results we see when using books in intervention. I searched for some validation for my feeling about this and I just stumbled across a great study.

Parents were asked to read books in their native language. Meanwhile, during school hours, teachers read the same books in English. During the period of time that parents and teachers were reading the same books, these students increased the frequency of their utterances, increased the length of their utterances, and increased their use of spontaneous interactions in the classroom. So, to sum it up—when parents read to their children in Spanish, the children's language skills in the English-speaking environment increased in frequency and complexity.

I think that it even helps for the students to self-select books to just read. Reading is language acquisition. It's complex problem solving. It's just fun. We always do things better when we think we are doing it well. I know they are so thankful to be seen and recognized with value.”

  • Tech in the Classroom

    Funded Feb 3, 2024

This was the best surprise to receive this gift. And that is exactly what it is. We rarely get technology for our classroom because of cost, and I couldn't be more appreciative. Because of the way things work at school, we don't always get the extras we need. These aren't even considered extra. To the students that don't have a computer because it's broken and being repaired or lost or stolen and are not eligible for a new one - these are gold. They take such pride in their work and these chrome books just help us do everything better.”

  • Keeping Our Campus Clean!

    Funded Feb 8, 2024

My students and the school population are very excited about the recycling program. They picked strategic places that they noticed where garbage builds up. They created specific signage and took ownership of the cans. They have been seen by other teachers and staff "coaching" their friends about recycling.

Every Tuesday they go out and collect the cans and bottles. We are still finding a little trash in the bins but less and less each time. They catalogue and post what they find and give tips about recycling to their classmates. They are so happy to begin this adventure and make the difference in our school.”

  • Crosby Cares! and Cleans.

    Funded Sep 26, 2022

We thank you so much. The students were so excited to get all the safety equipment. They love caring for the school and doing projects together. The smiles were endless that day. They are always banding together to show school spirit and many of the participants go to every event. This will enable us to do more for the school and out surrounding area. The safety of the students is paramount to us as teachers, and it makes the job easier to make sure they can participate freely and with confidence.”

  • Dividing and Detecting!

    Funded Apr 20, 2017

The gift you have bestowed on the students are ones they will never forget. The technology that we will use in the classroom will make their learning up to par with the better funded districts in our area. Just the access to the modeling kits for the units make it more tangible and real to the students. Many of the students are excited about the forensics kits because they are very interested in DNA and blood typing. I can't wait to do some activities with them that will get them really excited.”

    With gratitude,

  • All the Great Things We Can Learn!

    Funded Dec 8, 2016

Thank you for ABO testing kit. The blood types are so hard to understand and this will make it very clear for all my students. The students were very excited to get new materials. The blood typing kit we used as directed and them as a forensic scientist. They had to use the info that they got to narrow down the suspect pool and catch the killer. We are very grateful to be able to explore real world scenarios in the classroom.

The density blocks were a big surprise to my Physical science class. Although we already did density earlier in the year, I made sure we did an activity so they could explore it again. They were so excited to be able to use their knowledge to do something fun.”

    With gratitude,

  • Up Close and Personal!

    Funded Oct 6, 2016

    Dear, Anonymous Donor,

The materials that you provided the students will be their first introduction to the world that they know is there but can't readily see. Using a microscope to investigate their world is some thing that inner city kids don't often get. They have a curiosity that begs to be unleashed and for some of these students will power their futures. I want to show them there is still things to see and that they can do it. I always get some students who want to go farther in science after they look and see unusual things. They are excited and I know that these microslide viewers will inspire them to reach for something new.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mahan

My students are amazing. They have a very challenging home and social life. They can't afford to buy most of the necessary things that we need. The classroom is their safe haven. Our school is a community for them. They don't give me many supplies and I have to buy anything that the students need. I go to the office supply store every week.
