For years, the small high school I teach at had only a boys soccer team. After hearing a small group of dedicated students reach out to me and ask me if I could try to organize a soccer team, I decided to give it a shot. At our first club practice, I showed basic soccer skills to just 3 girls after school. By June, our club practices regularly had between 20 and 25 girls. I taught many of these girls Social Studies in the classroom during the day and yet never saw them open up or be as passionate about something as they were at these club practices. Through their dedication, our school was awarded its first ever Girls High School Soccer Team this fall. Despite our struggles to get wins, their enthusiasm never faded.
