  • Getting Dirty with Vermicomposting!

    Funded Jun 28, 2023

Receiving this grant has been an exciting highlight for the gifted and talented students here at Granby Elementary School! The students have truly benefited from all the wonderful school supplies provided through this grant. It brings joy to my heart to be able to provide students with everything they need on the first day of school.

With the help of this grant, I was able to provide my class with the accessories needed to begin vermicomposting in the classroom. Currently, we are learning about the benefits of soil and why we must conserve it. Students have enjoyed composting with earthworms! It has been a pleasure to witness students learning the benefits earthworms provide to the soil. The tools from the grant were an integral part of the process! Thank you again for your kindness, support and generosity.”

  • Colorful Necessities

    Funded Oct 7, 2022

Receiving this grant has been an exciting highlight for the second grade students here at Granby Elementary School! The students have truly benefited from all the wonderful school supplies provided through this grant. It brings joy to my heart to be able to provide students with everything they need on the first day of school.

What I found most rewarding was this school year I did not have to ask the parents to send in more supplies. With the help of this grant, I was able to provide my class school supplies to last the entire school year. Thank you again for your kindness, support and generosity.”

  • Turn it Up!

    Funded May 31, 2022

Receiving this grant has been an exciting highlight for the students here at Granby Elementary! Students have really enjoyed the bluetooth speaker which easily syncs up with the Smartboard in our classroom! Now, when we want to get out of our seats for a brain break or to get "the wiggles out," we can actually hear the music. No longer are we forced to use small desktop speakers. Students have really enjoyed hearing their favorite songs and educational videos amplified. Thank you again for your kindness, support and generosity.”

  • Hats and Gloves: Warms Hands for Warm Hearts!

    Funded Feb 22, 2022

Receiving this grant has been an exciting highlight for the second grade students here at Granby Elementary School! The students really enjoyed receiving their very own hat and glove set.

It was such a joy to see students outside wearing their hats and gloves. In addition, we went on an outdoor exploration to Camp Young where students wore their hats and gloves. It was just precious but more importantly, each student was warm despite the frigid temperatures!

What I found most rewarding was the number of students that wore their hats and gloves to school each day. This was very rewarding! Thank you again for your kindness, support and generosity.”

  • Nature and Nurture

    Funded Sep 24, 2021

Let me begin my expressing my gratitude for your generosity. It warms my heart and the hearts of students to receive materials and supplies for our classroom.

What an exciting transition it has been returning to in-person learning in the classroom this year! I was eager to make the classroom inviting for the return of students.

The materials purchased allowed me to decorate our classroom library with comfortable cushions, twinkling lights, and and colorful storage ottoman. While some of the flexible seating was unavailable at the time of purchase, I was able to replace the item with much needed materials.

Again, I can't thank you enough for your kindness. I have enjoyed sharing with students the kind and thoughtful donors in the community that aim to make our classroom a more brighter and beautiful place.”

  • Growing and Glowing

    Funded Dec 24, 2021

Receiving this grant has been an exciting highlight for the students here at Granby Elementary! The students really enjoyed creating their very own "Grow and Glow" ecosystem. The project was extremely engaging and a great hands-on activity for second graders. It was such a joy to see students design, create, plant, and nurture their baby seedlings. Students were eager to share their mature ecosystem with not only me, but their classmates as well. In fact, many of the students even transported their ecosystems into their backyards! How cool! I am confident this grant "planted the seed" for future stewards of the Earth! Thank you again for your kindness, support and generosity.”

  • Books are Back!

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Receiving this grant has been an exciting highlight for the students here at Granby Elementary! Let me share a little about how our reading block is structured so that you may understand why students have been so excited! To begin, we start the day with shared reading. Shared reading consists of a teacher selected book based on the genre of the week.

Next, students transition into the small group reading portion. During the small group portion of the reading block, students are engaged in literacy activities in small reading groups. The book cart has been a tremendous help in keeping student organized! Each student has her or her very own literacy bin which are stored in the cart. These literacy bins contain materials the students use independently during their workstations. The bins contains items such as: library books, word work, sight word flash card, etc. Some additional literacy resources for the bins were purchased using the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card!

Students really enjoy having their own bins to take out and work at desk or carpet. It really helps students stay organized and on-task throughout the small group workstations. I am very grateful for the donors that supported me in receiving this fantastic resource! Your kindness warms my heart and has a huge impact on our future scholars!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Diggs

  • Whether Near of Far, Let's Stay Engaged!

    Funded Dec 18, 2020

Greetings Donors! To begin, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for this grant! What an amazing experience it has been for the students and I to use Nearpod this year. Nearpod is an amazing educational experience with engaging, interactive activities and formative assessments. My students have enjoyed the formative assessments the most. The quizzes are so interactive they feel more like a game than a test! I have never had students so eager to take an assessment before. It has made learning online a lot more engaging.

Furthermore, the Teachers Pay Teachers card has been a tremendous help! With the gift card I am able to purchase meaningful interactive lessons to support online learning and Zoom lessons. This grant has made a huge difference in teaching and learning online. I am so grateful for this grant! Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Diggs

Currently, I have twenty-two amazing students. They come in all different sizes and shapes. They come with warm hearts and smiling faces. They come to learn and challenge the universe! I teach in an urban school district. The majority of our students are economically disadvantaged. There are twenty-two students in my class: nine girls, thirteen boys. Currently I teach the inclusion class which consists of the following: four students with an IEP, three students that receive services for speech pathology, one student that has a 504, and three students that receive ESL services. We are a Title I school so we do receive additional state funding; however, these funds are typically reserved for professional development, school improvement, and mandated school-wide resources.
