A Sketchbook Will Help My Artists Keep It Together!
Funded Jan 5, 2021You can not imagine the difference owning a sketchbook has made for my students, especially those working from home (which is most of them)! Before receiving their new sketchbooks, many of my student would misplace their artwork, or forget where they had put it. Sadly, many times, their artwork was thrown out.
Now, my students don't lose anything! Even better, they have all their ideas, sketches, lessons, and artwork in one place. This has made all the difference.
My students can now refer back to the previous weeks lesson and any ideas they wrote down or drew, before they create a final piece of artwork. The artwork is safe and clean for them to go back to and work on a little at a time. This is huge for my students! And its all because of your generosity! We thank you so much. You have made a difference is a child's life!”

Let's Bring Color To Their World!
Funded May 15, 2020Having my grant funded was an exciting moment for my students and myself! Once the colored pencils arrived at my home, I set a date and time for students to come line up in front of school to pick up them (of course with social distancing!) Working out of the trunk of my car, I handed out over 400 sets of colored pencils. I was so happy and excited to see my students, and see they were okay and hand them some supplies to work with! After working at home for two months with no art supplies, my students were thrilled to receive their new colored pencils!
My students artwork and engagement improved immediately! Students who had done very little since quarantine started began to participate! Students who were creating unicorn drawing were able to draw colorful drawings with plenty of rainbows. My students who were drawing dogs, were able to use a black and brown and add other colors to their drawings.
Receiving the pencils at this time was so much more than just giving students supplies they didn't have. This was a special pick me up, that my little ones needed. Knowing that people care about them, during a time when they were anxious and worried helped put a smile on the face. I think my students are very grateful for receiving such a blessing. I know I am.”

Funded Mar 24, 2015Having the Field Guides in my studio has made a great difference in my students' artwork! Now they have reference on over 200 different birds, and they love it! They are able to choose which bird they want to draw, paint and sculpt.
My students are creating paper mache birds. First, they choose a bird and read about it. Then, they sketch it to become familiar with all it's parts, markings, and colors. Once that is complete, they create their sculpture, and paper mache it! The last step is to paint the bird.
These field guides provide accurate pictures of birds with lots of information about each one. The students love to sit and read about different birds. They will be used year after year, in many different projects!
Thank you again for your generosity!”

Draw What You See!
Funded Feb 13, 2015My students are always curious when they see something new in the art studio, and when they saw file boxes, it was no different. They thought that organizing photos into an art library was a great idea. They were excited and were very helpful. They sorted through existing photos that needed to filed, and made recommendations for other pictures that they needed.
Currently, my students are working on projects involving drawing and painting flowers, chameleons, and a variety of animals. They were able to access photos of what they needed quite easily. They were able to do this independently, and chose just what they wanted.
Sometimes artists think they know what they want, but then when they begin to explore, it opens up many more possibilities! This is what I saw happen with my students. Additionally, when students work independently, my time is freed up to help those who are struggling. My students and I thank you again for making an art library possible and for your contribution to this project!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Penello
