Funded Feb 14, 2015My students absolutely love the phonics activity center. They say that it's fun, and they like completing the activities. They are happy when the lady on the CD tells them "you're right!". The reading level of this center is such that they can be successful working independently with the materials.
My students and I are using this center so that the kids can work independently while I work with each student one-on-one with guided reading. Low readers and behavior problems often go hand-in-hand, and I was struggling to find a way to keep the others engaged in meaningful work while I work with each student. The center truly helps to keep them focused and engaged, freeing my up for my work with individual students.
This project will boost my students' learning by giving me more time to work one-on-one without interruption. I am having wonderful results with the guided reading. Kids who told me in the beginning of the year that they "can't read" or "hate reading" are confidently moving up levels in the pre-primer books, and I even have some who have moved beyond and are working in second and third grade trade books. For the lowest readers at a struggling school, it's exciting to see their growth. Thank you so much for helping to support us in this important work.”
With gratitude,
