  • Help Us to Create a Fun and Motivating School Climate!

    Funded Nov 11, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our Liveschool store. Our little scholars are doing such a great job, struggling to keep masks on all day or logging in and learning online. I am sure these incentives will brighten their day and help give them one more reason to love school.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Codina

  • Meeting Basic Needs to Promote School Success and Happy Children

    Funded Feb 8, 2017

Thank you so much for the donation of hoodies. The kids were so happy to receive them. Most are used to hand-me-downs, so it was especially nice for them to receive brand new items. We had some fairly cold mornings this past winter, and it's so gratifying to see a shivering child put on a nice, new, warm hoodie! I also told them about how people in our community love kids and want to help them. It makes our kids feel warm on the inside also to know that there are grownups out in the community who care about them and want to help them.

Thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Codina

  • Please Help Our Kids to Believe in Themselves!

    Funded Jul 14, 2016

My kids are so excited for Fridays! Friday is when I open up the "prize box", where they can choose a special pencil or other small token to reward them for all of their hard work in the reading lab each week. The prize box, along with the daily attendance stickers, help the students want to break their regular classroom routine and come for extra reading instruction in the reading lab. These may seem like small things, but to my kids they make a big difference. Thank you so much for providing these resources.”

  • Please Help our Kids to Believe in Themselves!

    Funded Dec 31, 2015

Thank you so much for the magnetic whiteboards for our reading lab. The kids are enjoying using these boards not only for writing words, but also for engaging in a "build a word" activity where they spell various words using letter magnets.

The kids were excited to see that the boards were magnetic. We tried to use our magnet letters with our old boards, but since they weren't magnetic the letters kept slipping all over the place. With the new boards, it's much easier for the students to manipulate the letters to form new words.

This year we saw excellent results in our reading lab, with 98% of our students demonstrating growth in reading. We plan to continue our successful activities with a new crop of readers during the next school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Codina

  • Please Support Struggling Readers!

    Funded Feb 14, 2015

My students absolutely love the phonics activity center. They say that it's fun, and they like completing the activities. They are happy when the lady on the CD tells them "you're right!". The reading level of this center is such that they can be successful working independently with the materials.

My students and I are using this center so that the kids can work independently while I work with each student one-on-one with guided reading. Low readers and behavior problems often go hand-in-hand, and I was struggling to find a way to keep the others engaged in meaningful work while I work with each student. The center truly helps to keep them focused and engaged, freeing my up for my work with individual students.

This project will boost my students' learning by giving me more time to work one-on-one without interruption. I am having wonderful results with the guided reading. Kids who told me in the beginning of the year that they "can't read" or "hate reading" are confidently moving up levels in the pre-primer books, and I even have some who have moved beyond and are working in second and third grade trade books. For the lowest readers at a struggling school, it's exciting to see their growth. Thank you so much for helping to support us in this important work.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Codina
