My calculus students have high goals for learning what is typically considered the pinacle of high school math, but many of them come from disadvantaged backgrounds and came to high school with weak math skills. They have worked very hard to make it to where they are now. At our school, we have very high expectations of our students and in turn, give them a chance to take classes typically considered too difficult or rigorous for high school students. They take courses taught at a college level by professors with college teaching experience.
