Get Movin' With Teamwork

Funded Jul 31, 2016

Dear Donors,

The parachutes were the perfect equipment for meeting the needs of physical activity, cooperation, and teamwork. The integration of skills that the kids receive by using the parachute makes it practical for the range of age level skills that I teach.

When the parachutes were first introduced to the students, we played a cooperative game with them. The gym erupted in excitement. The kids learned right away the importance in communication to work together as a team. They had a great opportunity to get involved and see physical education as team effort. The found ways to be creative and contribute their own ideas to work together.

The next steps are to further the concept of cooperation and teamwork while utilizing physical education standards. Grades 3-5 will compare their first results of the game- keeping track of how successful they were. They will then work in groups to develop strategies and cooperation skills required to be successful. They will then try the same activity and compare the results. We will use their findings to create school wide teamwork strategies for the school that will apply to the entire day- during all classes and recess as well. Further activities and games will also be introduced with the parachute to practice the teamwork and cooperation skills the students created.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Appelgate
