Classroom Library Books for Students!
Funded Nov 12, 2023Thank you so much for funding my project! For the past 10 years, I have been on a mission to get my high school students reading more. Their tastes change quickly, so I need to have a LARGE variety of books to offer them or else they won't do their reading homework. I tell my students that it is okay to "quit" a book because I'm confident I have another book in my classroom that they can read and actually like. But I need to keep my collection fresh, which is where your donation comes in! Thank you!
Students give me recommendations for what kind of books they want in my classroom library, and I also get recommendations from our wonderful librarian. I want to make sure that I am choosing the right books for my students. Teenagers are busy, and some won't take the time to find a good book in our library. I am so happy that I can simply hand them one to borrow from my classroom library.
Thank you again!”

Diverse Titles for Classroom Library
Funded Oct 12, 2020My goal as an English teacher is to get as many GREAT books in to the busy lives of my high school students. Reading can sometimes take a back burner to other activities as students get older. But not in my class! Students are required to read 5 choice books per semester or (1750 pages) and complete 100 minutes of reading homework in their choice book each week.
Reading is so important in my class, that I give students 10 minutes each class period to read their choice book while I conference with students about their reading. I keep notes about each student when we meet: what are they reading? when are they doing their reading HW? what new goals can we set? do they need a book recommendation?
And because of your geniouristy, I now have soooo many new books to recommend and loan out to students. These books are extra special as they promote inclusion, diversity, and antiracism---all topics that I am passionate about and working hard to infuse into my curriculum.
Even though my school is still virtual, I have already loaned out the new books to students, and I will continue to do so. Thank you so much!”

Mrs. Lillig

Funded Oct 17, 2018Thank you so much for donating to my project! Wow! I am so grateful, and my students are too. I put together a Google Slide show with pictures and summaries of all of the books, and my students went through it today to see which books they are interested in. One of my students was so excited because he's been wanting to read a particular book, but he was unable to find a copy. But now he can read it! And all thanks to you!
I have another student who struggled in the past with finding good books, but he's been voraciously reading this year. However, he's at the point where he has read all of the books in my classroom library that appeal to him. So these new books couldn't have come at a better time! As soon as they arrived, he spotted one, read it, and is on book 3 of the series already!
People say that kids today don't read anymore; they are too distracted by technology. But with your help, I am changing that!”

Funded Oct 30, 2017As soon as the books arrived, my students grabbed at the books! I didn't even have a chance to take pictures of all the books because students wanted to check them out from me right away. When I created the list of books that I wanted, I thought about all of the different kinds of readers I have in my classes, and I looked at the types of books I already have in my library. I realized that I didn't have a lot of Young Adult Sci-Fi books, even though I have lots of students who love Sci-Fi. I was excited to order YA Sci-Fi, and I even found a few series which can especially help students get motivated to read. I also noticed that a lot of students had checked out my Young Adult Realistic Fiction books, so I made sure to order a few more of those including John Green's new book since my students love John Green.
In my high school English classes, we read for about 10 minutes every day because students have to read 10 choice books per semester. For some of them, this is the most books they have read since elementary school. In order to keep them motivated, I am constantly looking for new books for my classroom library. Thank you for making it possible for me to get my students reading!”
