I teach students K-12 in a rural setting. We are a high poverty school with enthusiastic students. This is the first year the school has had an art program. My favorite part of teaching is watching their eyes light up when they know they are about to have art. One thing most of them have in common is they have experienced very little culture outside of their own. When surveyed, all but a handful of them had ever been to an art museum, and even fewer students could name a famous artist, even in the upper grades.
