  • Empowering, Engaging, and Motivating Second Language Learners Through Games

    Funded Jan 23, 2023

I am writing to thank you for your generous support of our project. Your generous donation has enabled me to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment for my students. Thanks to your contributions, my students now have a variety of games and center materials to work on.

The Number pattern cards have become a valuable resource for my students to improve their pattern recognition, number identification, and tracing skills. The counting money and word problems match-up puzzles have offered my students hands-on experience in solving word problems and practicing addition and subtraction.

The Rhyming Sounds Magnetic Sorting Boards, and Rhyming Bingos have been used during center time to enhance the language-learning. These resources have made language acquisition more effective and enjoyable. As a result, my students have become more enthusiastic and motivated to learn.

Thank you for your selflessness and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Meléndez

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    April 14, 2016

    Dear Donors,

I am writing you this letter to express my gratitude and appreciation for your generous donation. The Jumbo Ten frames have helped my students add and subtract, the alphabet Stamps have made a significant impact in students word studies and letter recognition as well. The I Pads assist my students in wonderful visual aids as well as auditory help for my bilingual population. Your donations have helped my classroom become a place where learning is fun, engaging and motivating. We thank you so very much for all you have done for our class! There are no words to express our tremendous gratitude!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Meléndez

My students have limited access to technology and English exposition at home. Many of my students are just learning English, which placed them in disadvantage in contrast with well-funded schools. Therefore, my goal is to provide my students the necessary tools to help them continue develop their academic goals. I have students with IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) which still don’t know the alphabet, others struggle recognizing it. Some are reading at a level A and others are emergent readers. At the beginning of the day we meet in the meeting area to do morning routine. After that we do readers workshop, writers and math workshop in which I model the strategy that I want them to learn and put it in practice during independent practice. While they do independent work I confer with a small group. Every other day I teach ESL science and ESL social studies. At the end of the day I use the I-Pad to review sight words, the words and letters of the week.
