  • Printing in the Art Room

    Funded Nov 8, 2024

Our Cannon printer is simply amazing, and we are so grateful for our new paper. We have successfully started a repeating pattern assignment. We are linking this assignment to the Artist Walter Anderson from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The Walter Anderson Foundation will have an Art Show at our local Arts Center this April. We are excited to see his beautiful work. We are drawing animals and plants from the Gulf Coast. We are turning our 8"x8" tiles into large prints.

This project introduces Textile Design and Graphic Design. I have a degree in Interior Design, and I loved creating repeating patterns in college. I almost took a job with Waverly hand painting wallpaper cells. These types of assignments help our students realize that they can find successful careers in Art.

The orange and green elephant pattern was designed by one of my special needs students. He loved this assignment because it repeated. He is very precise, and the repetition really made his pattern come alive. Wouldn't these patterns make fun wrapping paper or wallpaper?

Because we have new paper we can try new projects. Our card stock will be perfect for paper collage, and the watercolor paper will be a treat during our next painting unit. Thank you so much for offering this grant. I have written grants to Thea before, but unfortunalty I was unable to find a company willing to match my grant. This fully funded opportunity honoring Paul's birthday was just awesome! I'll be honest I'm praying you consider offering this opportunity again. Thank you for helping my students. My students are very talented, and it is so much fun to be able to offer them new techniques.”

    With gratitude,

  • The Lion King Backdrop

    Funded Jan 24, 2016

Thank you for helping us make The Lion King play a success! Our masks are almost complete, and we have found a way to project our backdrops onto the stage. The backdrops are really pretty! I am including photos of the backdrops. Your donation helped us buy extra paint, paper, markers, felt, & feathers. We have used these materials to make our masks and backdrops great!

We are sending you and yours tickets to the play! If you can, come and watch us preform! The play will be at the EHS Auditorium on May 10th & 12th. There will be two performances each night. One will start at 5:30, and the other will start at 7:30.

You have made such an amazing difference this year! This was a hard year, but we made it! We are all so grateful for you both!!

    Thank You!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Harwell

  • New Art Trays

    Funded Sep 11, 2015

Thank you so much for our new Art Trays! We love them! They have made such a difference in our daily routine. They fit on our shelves perfectly. We don't miss having three trays fall each time one tray is moved. Every class has a different color, so it is easy for my students to find their trays. The trays are so pretty! They certainly make the classroom look a lot more inviting. My students insisted that I thank you for trays that are large enough to allow their artwork to dry flat.

I remember thinking this summer that it would be so nice to be able to just go buy all new trays. It amazes me how God continues to provide everything that I need. All I had to do was ask, and that just takes my breath away!

I also want you to know that I got the E-Mail from Donor's Choose telling me that this project had been funded at the end of a very hard day! I had actually taken a drive before going home that day. Sometimes it's hard to leave school at school, but I try not to bring difficult days home to my kids. I had gotten a coke and was sitting at the park decompressing when I got that E-Mail. All I could think was... well I guess I can keep going... maybe I'm doing something right. I adore my job, but I will tell you that having community support like this is very helpful! Thank you so much for such a generous gift. I pray it is returned to you many many times over!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Harwell

I teach 5th and 6th grade art. My students are very talented! This year we designed artwork for our new School Based Health Center. My students mastered acrylic painting. They painted self-portraits and family portraits for our Health Center. Last year we wrote a book about our town. We created pen and ink illustrations of many things that make our town a special place to call home. Last year we won two second place state awards for our pen and ink illustrations. This year one of my students had her self-portrait chosen for the state art exhibit. Her painting will travel the state and even be on display at Children's Hospital. Our school is very proud of its Art Department. Our teachers value the arts and understand how important a strong art education is for our students.
