We Love Technology
Funded Nov 27, 2015The Samsung Galaxy Tablets have completely transformed our classroom. From the moment that they arrived, students could hardly wait to get their hands on them. They really helped to support the work we did around our Extreme Weather/Natural Disaster unit. This was a cross-curricular ELA and science unit in which students worked in teams to become experts on a subtopic. Teams were able to utilize the tablets to help them research their subtopic and create dynamic presentations.
The students and I are most excited about how the Tablets have expanded our classroom library. Now, with access to a wide variety of articles and videos, our researching potential is endless. As the students say, "It's like we have five libraries in one!"
Most rewarding, perhaps, has been intensified levels of engagement in reading with my reluctant readers. These students are able to read with more stamina and focus than ever before.
The students and I thank you for your support with this project!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Almas
Seeing is Believing!
Funded Feb 6, 2015Words can hardly express my gratitude for your generous donation. The new document camera has not only reenergized my teaching practice, but it has dramatically enhanced the level of student engagement in my classroom.
Our class makes use of the equipment on a daily basis, and we have been able to view text, watch live demonstrations, and observe student work samples as a whole class, and with clarity and precision. Thanks to the document camera, we can now project items onto the Smart Board. This has allowed us to merge our thinking as a group and learn from one another as a collective body.
It has been most rewarding to see my second graders take increased ownership of their work and become facilitators of their own learning. We recently completed a measurement unit in mathematics, and the document camera greatly supported this learning. Students enjoyed viewing and critiquing their peers, in real-time, as they counted coins and used an inch ruler. Even my more reserved students have jumped at a chance to display their work and receive recognition from their classmates. This has been a welcomed change.
I thank you sincerely for your support with this project, and I hope you enjoy looking at the pictures of us putting the technology to good use. Congratulations to you for making a huge impact!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Almas
