My school is a Bilingual School and considered low socio-economic. Most students here have parents who are Spanish speaking, however I'm grateful this hasn't been a barrier of my communication with parents. There is a curriculum I am expected to follow, and I do so by communicating with the general education teachers in order to connect what I am doing to whatever they are doing in the classroom. There is a supreme focus on reading and literacy this year, therefore I felt it would be a wonderful learning experience for the students to create their own comic book which they could put together as an actual book. I find that presentation is important to my students and they love to share their learning experiences with everyone. The students are creative and have an appreciation of what they can learn through art. In order to provide a place where students who are at an advantage in art can be challenged and extend their abilities further, I also have an art club after school.
