  • Classroom Basics and Curriculum Supplements for a Successful Year!

    Funded Oct 13, 2024

I am deeply grateful for your generous support of my DonorsChoose project. Thanks to your kindness, I was able to use the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to help me provide advanced math materials and creative math crafts for my students. These resources have made a tremendous difference, allowing my more advanced learners to be challenged while blending creativity and problem-solving for all students.

The basic classroom items you funded have also been invaluable in keeping our classroom running smoothly. These essentials allowed me to focus more on teaching and less on worrying about purchasing materials out of pocket. Additionally, the STEM toys you provided have brought so much joy and excitement to my students. Watching their engagement and enthusiasm grow as they explore, build, and create has been truly heartwarming.

Your generosity has had a lasting impact, and I cannot thank you enough for making this possible. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tuck

  • Engaging Books for First Grade Readers

    Funded Jul 23, 2021

Thank you so much for your help! I am so grateful for your generosity in supporting my classroom. I can't wait to get these books and show them to my class. The kids will be so excited to have these new and engaging books to read. It is very hard to find books that make kids want to read, and without outside support I would not have the means to do so. It makes such a difference!”

  • Capturing Student Interest Through Technology!

    Funded May 14, 2019

Thank you so much for your incredible generosity in donating to my classroom! Technology is such an important part of learning in today's world, and it provides endless opportunities for individualized and engaging instruction. As I'm sure any of you can imagine, the kids are always excited when technology is integrated into their learning. These tablets have allowed students to work independently during our math rotations and our literacy rotations. They use them for math games, literacy games, and following along as they listen to stories. They are so happy to have these new tablets!”

    With gratitude,

  • Playing is Learning in First Grade

    Funded Jan 8, 2019

I cannot thank you enough for your support in my classroom. My students have been beyond excited about the new materials. Our magnet tiles and legos have become the new most popular items for our morning exploration time and free choice Fridays!

The hands-on activities and dry erase pockets have allowed me to create differentiated independent work that the students are excited to use. One of the most popular activities from this project has been the ten-frame and fact fluency cards! They absolutely love working in pairs to quiz each other and see who flips over the biggest number.

It is really incredible to see my kids exploring these fantastic materials, and I am so grateful to you all for the part you played in making this happen.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tuck

  • Make First Grade Come Alive with Hands-On Activities

    Funded Oct 9, 2018

Thank you again so much for your generosity! Wow, these materials have been such a big hit. When the kids walked in the classroom and saw all the new activities stacked up, they literally could not stop talking about them. It was the highlight of the week, if not the month!

In my classroom, these activities go on trays on a bookshelf. Students can choose to work on these trays if they finish work early, or during our literacy centers time. These are always the most popular choices! They are high-quality, engaging, and don't fall apart like my homemade games! I have watched almost half my class go from non-readers to readers this year, and I can't help thinking that this is a big part of why that happened. These kids find math and literacy time to be exciting and collaborative. I hope that never goes away!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Tuck

The use of hands-on activities in math and reading is crucial in first grade. These games help concepts come alive by asking students to touch, see, and talk about the ideas they are working on. Each activity comes in a variety of levels so that students can work at a pace that is just right for them and support each other with new concepts. This also allows students to learn to work both independently and with partners. By donating to this project, you will be helping my students learn foundational skills in math and reading as well as contributing to their academic engagement. The math activities cover basic addition, subtraction and place value. The literacy centers teach reading skills such as decoding and recognizing sight words. Without a firm grasp on all of these ideas, my students will struggle in later grades. However, more important than anything else, these games will prove that learning is exciting and fun. It will motivate my students to learn letter sounds and addition facts so they can play the games and work with their friends. If nothing else, I want my students to come away from my classroom with a firm belief that school is engaging and learning is enjoyable.
