Just Right Reading!
Funded Sep 17, 2024I want to again give you a great big thank you!! We read these each Friday and my kids are loving the topics of the articles. Not only that but it has sparked some very in-depth conversations. We are learning that we don't always have to agree with each other and that it is possible to disagree politely and continue to value and respect each other. We are also learning so much about interesting facts about so many other places around the world. My students, who typically struggle to read, are actually asking me if we can to read our Scholastic Magazines on Friday and many of them are volunteering to read, which is not normal! Thanks so much Donors! You are the Best!”

The Power of Play
Funded Dec 31, 2015First and foremost, THANK YOU! We love our new kitchen set! We are using it in so many ways! We are learning to play together, share, take turns, and use kind words. We are learning what food items need to be refrigerated and which can stay on a shelf. We are learning that food must be cooked before we can eat it. We are also using our imaginations about what kinds of food to cook! Dinosaur meat is the current favorite!! MMmmmm! Yummy! We are also learning that dishes must be washed after every meal!
When we first saw our kitchen set it was in multiple boxes, which was a learning experience in itself! I had six little helpers sitting very quietly and patiently while I read the instructions and began the assembly process. Everyone took turns holding pieces and turning screws until the project was complete. The end result was 6 astonished voices in unison saying, "Wow! Look what we did!" They were so proud of themselves!
We have been so busy and having so much fun using free expression that I have not yet set a specific lesson plan into place to use our kitchen. The next step is to continually add empty food containers, pots, pans, and dishes, and play food to our kitchen. And, maybe a table and chair set as well so that we can enjoy our dinosaur stew!!
Again, thank you so much for making our dreams a reality!”

Funded Mar 19, 2015My students are very happy about the books they have received. They feel confident because they can read independently and they enjoy reading them over and over. We use these books every day during one on one reading time to increase both comprehension and fluency. I have had two of my students increase their reading level by one letter and I have one student who has increased 3 levels! Wow!! This was the perfect gift for my class!!
Thank you so much! I look forward to getting the remaining levels for next year!!”
