All of these materials will be used to help make my classroom a place where students can work with their teachers and in groups, as well as independently. It is important to me that my students have resources to facilitate their academic learning but also have what they need to support their social-emotional health and make them feel like they belong in their environment and school community. Manipulatives and counters can be used to not only help children with math skills, but to also learn how to sort or compare and contrast. I am asking for several different learning games (Zingo) that will help students with reading and math skills, and will also keep them engaged and having fun. These games can be used during centers and will help students learn to play and learn together without a teacher facilitating. A timer will not only allow me to stay on track, but will also help students learn more about the concept of time, be able to estimate time, and learn important time management skills. The books I am asking for are not for independent reading, as most of my students will not be able to start reading until later on in the year. They will have their own leveled texts for that. I am hoping to get a substantial collection of books that feature diverse characters for read-aloud and SEL time. Many of the lessons and ideas in these books will help my students think about their role in the world, what they are capable of, and what they want for themselves in life. The last few things are just for classroom decoration and organization!
