Performance Backdrops for Musical
Funded Jan 24, 2024Thank you for donating to the Arts at Macdowell Montessori. We used the news backdrop for our recent Black History Month performance. We had various news reporters present Mowtown Artists in front of it. It worked great. The other backdrops will be used in our upcoming musical, we are currently practicing for the performance. We have used the castle, ballroom, and meadow backdrops. Next year for the winter performance plan on using the snow scene backdrops for our choir concert. The backdrops being donated has allowed us to focus on building other set peices. The students are very excited to practice in front of the backdrops, it allows them to be able to get into character.
Thanks again, for allowing us to have the various backdrops in our arsenal of supplies.”

Geography for All
Funded Jan 12, 2024Thank you for your support of our geography class. We have been using a globe with a broken base and old maps from 2002, with multiple tears and rips. The students were suprised to see the new materials. They have been working with old materials for so long that at first, they were nervous to touch it. Then they realized how easy it is to work with new things that don't tear just by touching them.
Thank you again, for the upgrade to our Geography lessons. It is exciting to see the students excitment for the new materials.”

Funded Dec 29, 2023Thank you so much for supporting the Arts and our stage crew. We have recieved the products and are already building a frame for our Black History Program coming up in Feburary.
The students are using the screws to put together a 4x16 frame for a Motown backdrop. My students were excited to see screws, which are easier to use than nails to put the frame together. The eye bolts will be used to attach the frame to a batton for hanging. The lanyards will be used to put saftey cables on our lights.
I know this doesn't seem like a fun list of supplies, but without these items we could not build sets for performances. Most of my students have never picked up tools before this class.
Thanks again for your support.”

Mr. Hoagland
Personal Projects
Funded Feb 8, 2023Thank you for donating to Personal Projects. The donation of supplies has helped my students with completing their Project Based Learning assignments. The projects the students design cannot have any pencil on them, so the use of the sharpies is imperative to complete the work. The glue has been used to complete dioramas, little free libraries, models, and other various works. without the donation we had to limit the works being done with what we had on hand, or begged the art teacher for their supplies. We have been able to add color to the projects with the colored sharpies. In the past we only had black. Again, thank you for the opportunity to allow students to expand on their projects.”

Funded Apr 28, 2022My stage crew were very excited to receive the haz machines. When the haz started coming out they got so excited. We used the haz machines for our school musical, this enhanced our lighting tremendously. There was one scene where there was lightning and we hazed the stage, then had a boat roll out on stage threw the haz. It was awesome. We also just used it for Senior declaration day. We had the seniors walk out threw the haz and declare what college they were going to. The audience told me how cool they looked coming through the gym doors coming out of the haz. Thank you to all the donors that support the arts, and other programming at our school.”

Funded Nov 29, 2021Thank you so much for your contributions towards making snow happen for various performances. Do to supply chain shortages we didn't get to use it as much as we had planned, but the students are excited to have it for our winter concert and plays next year. This machine also aloud for training opportunities for my stage crew students. We have been trying to get updated equipment together, so that students will get opportunities to experience different newer equipment that they would see in today's productions. This will help them to hopefully obtain employment in the future. Milwaukee has a lot of theatre and music venues, that my students could become employed with in the future. Thanks again for your support of the Arts.”

Want to Be Heard
Funded Feb 11, 2021Thank you very much for the sponsorship of the head piece microphones. In the past students in musicals had very limited movement on stage, due to the fact that we only had stand microphones. The sound quality for our performances were very poor.
We are currently training on the new head sets and working on a spring musical Helea VS the Smart Phone. We have already been able to expand our sets to different levels since the singer can move. This also has an impact on the singer having less anxiety.
In the past they would have to make sure they are close enough to a standing mic. Now our singers can move freely about the stage.
Currently, we are using them for our upcoming winter concert. The soloists will be wearing the head piece mics, so that they can stay on the risers instead of making their way to a standing mic.
Again, I thank you for sponsoring our stage craft with "Want to be Heard". Our students do not have funding for performances, so gifts like yours make shows happen.”

Funded Nov 9, 2020My students and I are so grateful for your generous donation of a Lenova Spotlight. We are a k-12 school with over 800 students and this spotlight will literally shine on each of their faces in the next year and in the years to come.
While we are currently virtual, we have big plans for the spotlight when the anticipated return to in-person instruction happens. If we are able to return to in-person instruction this school year, I will be training a group of twenty-five students in the technical operation of the new spotlight.
Next year, we have a musical planned that will involve about 200 students between stage and crew. The Little Mermaid will be more of an event with this top of the line spotlight. The highlight of our stage each year is our Black History program in February which will highlight every class and student from elementary to high school.
I was able to invite a small group of students in to help me test out the new spotlight last week. Their faces lit up at the sight of a brand new piece of equipment. They were amazed at how much easier this spotlight is to operate and how much lighter it is compared with the previous spotlight we were operating, which dates back to the 1970's.
We cannot thank you enough for your support of the MacDowell Stage Crew!”

Mr. Hoagland
