My students need culturally-diverse reading materials as well as access to online literature while at school. In establishing a class community of welcoming and respect, it is essential that our classroom library reflects those values. We need books from different cultures, about children with special needs, with both male and female heroes, about recognizing commonalities and accepting differences, and nonfiction books about cultures from around the world. Additionally, headphones will help my students access online reading, listen to reading, and conduct research in the classroom. These materials will help them learn about the world and foster community in our diverse classroom.
