Supporting Student Bodies & Minds: Care Items
Funded Aug 18, 2024I can't thank you enough for making our care closet a reality. Because of your generosity, our classroom is now a place where students can access essentials like sanitary products, face wipes, and nutritious snacks with ease and dignity. These small items make a huge difference in our students' daily lives.
Thanks to this project, our students feel more confident and comfortable at school. For many, just knowing they can grab what they need without judgment or embarrassment has been a game-changer. It's been heartwarming to see their self-esteem grow—when students feel good about themselves, they're more engaged and ready to learn.
Your support has also brought a sense of safety and comfort to our classroom. These items don't just fill practical needs; they send a message that someone cares about them, and that they belong. For students facing tough challenges outside of school, this simple act of kindness means everything.
Thank you for making our care closet a cornerstone of comfort and support. Your impact goes far beyond the supplies; it's creating a ripple effect of confidence, security, and success.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Wolfe
This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org Teen Mental Health Initiative. Our Corner of Harlem: a Reading, Writing, and Art Nook
Funded Aug 7, 2024Thanks to you, our classroom's new nook has transformed the learning environment for our students. For many, the book nook has become a sanctuary—a calm, inviting space that welcomes all, filled with books in both English and the native languages of students newly arrived in the US. Here, students who may have struggled to connect with traditional classroom texts now have access to stories that resonate with their experiences, cultures, and backgrounds, making reading a meaningful, joyful part of their day. This access has inspired a greater love for literature, boosted confidence in language skills, and empowered all students to take control of their independent learning through literature.
The flexible seating has also had a powerful impact. Students enjoy the freedom to sit on cushions, the rug, or in the saucer chair, allowing them to decompress or sit with peers other than those they share space with at their typically assigned seats. The nook's cozy setup has also become a shared gathering place for building social connections across language and cultural lines. Students can relax and feel at ease, whether they're collaborating in small groups, studying with a teacher, or brainstorming ideas after school for our community service club (they love that space!). This dynamic has created a major sense of belonging in the classroom.
Thanks to the book nook, students are more engaged, motivated, and connected to their learning and each other, creating a more inclusive and empowering classroom for everyone.”

Ms. Wolfe
