Reading Comprehension Tools for My 8th Graders
Funded May 10, 2023The new school year is upon us and my 8th graders are using the new supplies on a daily basis. In fact, the second day of school we did a gallery walk where my kids used their whiteboards and markers to walk around the classroom and take notes on all of the benefits of reading.
The plastic worksheet covers have been a life saver and help me save SO much paper. Instead of making 150 copies for 5 classes, I can make 30 copies and save a bunch of paper. My 8th graders really enjoy the tactile element of writing on plastic "whiteboards" with markers, instead of boring, old pencil and paper.
I really appreciate your support in helping supply my classroom with a variety of tools that enliven my instruction. The students never know what fun supplies I'm going to pull out for the day's lesson and it really motivates them to learn.
Again, I truly thank you for your support.”

Funded May 20, 2021The 8th grade students were so excited to receive their Amazon gift cards. At their middle school graduation at Coney Island Amphitheater, each student was presented with a letter of congratulations and encouragement along with the gift card and a note asking them to purchase school supplies for high school. Some students remained at Studio for High School and those that did, have come back to thank us profusely. One child expressed that they would not have had a backpack this September if it weren't for your generous gift. Another student said they purchased art supplies and a sketch book to express their feelings through art. Overall, this was a wonderful gift and I hope to do it again this June!”

Funded Dec 20, 2020I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations that helped fund my project for Scholastic magazine.
In our classroom, we have very few in person students and it's difficult to teach to the remote students and in person students simultaneously. This magazine is great when my in-person kids finish their assignments. They get to read articles on their reading level and learn valuable lessons that impact their own lives. We then have such rich discussions that all kids enjoy participating and connecting the articles to their own personal struggles with peer pressure, health and emotional well-being. The magazine encourages them to make good decisions and addresses their social and emotional needs during these trying times.
Being able to provide an actual, tangible magazine that each student can touch and keep during Covid helps them to feel a bit more normal, like the "olden days," pre Covid. We all really appreciate your contribution to this project.”

Relief for Students Affected by Hurricane Sandy
Funded Nov 13, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to our students during their time of great need. Hurricane Sandy had a severe impact on many neighborhoods in Brooklyn where our students reside. Many home were flooded, power was out for serveral weeks and some lost their homes entirely. Your donations helped make the clean up effort a little bit easier. Your generosity taught our youngsters to have faith in the kindness and caring of strangers. My hope is that one day they will remember this experience and pay it forward to someone else in need. Again, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.”

Relief for students in Brooklyn affected by Hurricane Sandy
Funded Nov 9, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations. Brooklyn was in bad shape after Hurricane Sandy and many of our students lost their homes. Your donations made life a little bit easier during the arduous clean up process. Students not only benefitted from your donation, but they learned that people around the country really do care about others. They learned the value of charity. It is my hope that in the future, they will remember your kindness and pay it forward to others in need of assitance. Thank you again.”
