I am requesting a document camera, color printer, and mini laminator for my second grade classroom. In my class, I have a high percentage of English language learners. Research suggests that having a visual aid helps English Language Learners, as well as all young children, make connections in all subject areas. I need a document camera when teaching mathematics. It is extremely important to show students how do solve a math problem using manipulative or on their white boards. If students have a visual I can demonstrate procedures one step at a time. Students who see and do are more likely to retain the knowledge being taught. A laminator and color printer will be used everyday as visual aids for students do use during small group centers, as well as whole class activities. I use a laminated color photo in almost every lesson I teach because I find that it drives student engagement. If I print a picture in color and provide it during a lesson, it gets students talking. One color, laminated photo can become many lessons in all subject areas. I have asked for a listening center CD player as well. Some students learn through auditory lessons. In my classroom I'd like to present lessons for all types of learning styles, kinesthetic, auditory, and visual. I'd like my students to have the opportunity to listen to the stories they read to get a more in depth understanding of the main ideas/concepts in the story.
