  • Meet Me On The Rug

    Funded Oct 18, 2023

I cannot thank you all enough for your generous donations. I have the most incredible job in the world, I am greeted each morning by the most beautiful faces in the world. They are so full of excitement and pure happiness. I am so grateful that I get to spend my days with them. I cannot wait to sit with them on our new rug and share stories, music and play time. My students deserve nothing but the best and each of you has helped to achieve that. This is a magical moment, Thank you for making it possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Frank

  • "Learning with Legos"

    Funded Jun 5, 2018

Upon receiving the new Lego's building blocks the endless possibilities brought me so much excitement. During the time I was creating my donors choose project I kept in mind the amount of creativity and expression that would come about. Having 12 boys in a classroom is an interesting dynamic, They all want the trucks, cars and trains and lego's! Which of course comes as no surprise. They also have a great love for building so my project was pretty easy to create. My students learn through play, and best while using materials they can manipulate. I needed Items that would stand the test of time as well as items that would facilitate greater language, social interactions and expression. The emotions Lego set brought out a lot of questions and led my students into conversations with each other and staff members. One of the Lego blocks has a sad face, I asked my students " Why do you think he is sad? One of my boys said because he needs to find a friend.. I said so lets build him a friend so he will be happy. Being able to express emotion is a challenging task for many of my students, I'm excited to see how these materials will aid them.

Over the last few weeks I have noticed how much more engaged my students are. Their attention has increased, and they are focused on creating and exploring. What makes me most pleased is that I see more attempts at sharing and taking turns with the vehicles and people. I hear my students saying " It's ok you can have it" or "Let's share the car". I couldn't be more proud of them.

I wish I had a window into my classroom that I could send to each of you, You could truly see the impact your donations have made on all of my students. Each of you has touched the lives of a child in more ways then you will ever know. We are all eternally grateful for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Frank

  • " For the Luv of Reading"

    Funded Nov 17, 2016

Over the past 15 plus years I have had the most amazing job ever. No day is ever the same and I am totally exhausted by Friday! Each of those years has not been without its challenges and obstacles, But my goals have continued to remain the same. Firstly, provide my students with a loving, caring and respectful environment. Secondly, expose them to as many materials possible . Lastly never say never. A child is an open book, no matter what their difficulties may be, they are all thirsty for knowledge. Every child will thrive when provide with the appropriate environment and positive models.

Thanks to Donors Choose, and you the supporters of my classroom, I have been able to continue reaching my goals. When I introduced the new listening center to my students they were beyond excited. It was like watching children on Christmas morning, or opening their birthday presents. Each day one student can pick the story for the reading group, They especially love the story"It looked like spilled milk". It always leads us to some creative thinking and drawings. My students are special needs and when an activity can create more language and creative ideas I am beyond happy. Some of my students have great difficulty attending to a story being read by the teacher, using the headphones allows then to focus on the words and meaning of the story and not be distracted by other noises. Technology in my classroom has exposed my students to things they may have never seen at home. Thank you all for generous contributions and for being a part of my classroom. You have each touched the lives of my students in more ways than you will ever know. Eternally grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Frank

  • "All the Comforts of Home"

    Funded May 25, 2015

Words cannot express how grateful We are to each of you for your generous contributions. I say we because my students are part of me, heart and soul. I cherish each moment I have with them and feel so lucky to share in just a small part of their lives. Many people say that children with special needs are not aware, they don't understand or they aren't able to express themselves. Well I can tell you first hand that when I opened this beautiful new rug my babies had Lot's to say! Mrs. Susan where did you get that? Is that for us?, Can I touch it? It has red, It has yellow, And those who aren't able to use words just laid down on the rug and rolled around with huge smiles on their faces. They are most excited when I say " bring your toys to the rug". This is their favorite time of the day. I am so happy to sit on the rug with them and play, share and just be a comfort. It's just like being home. My classroom is all about being comfortable, feeling safe and secure and knowing that you are loved just the way you are .So thank you to each of you and know that you have made a huge impact on 13 little lives, and a teacher who is eternally touched by your kindness.

Ms. Susan, Amanda,Jason, Nyairah, Brandin,Kelly, Miley,Olivia R, Olivia P, Angelina, Alvin, Alex and Ava.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Frank

I work with special needs preschool students ages 2-4 years old. They come to me with many obstacles and challenges. My little guys have little language, some are autistic, some are downs syndrome and some have learning/behavior difficulties. These babies start school at an infant level and leave me with such amazing progress it brings tears to my eyes. I am so proud to work with preschool students and feel lucky each day to be part of their lives. I provide a multi-sensory approach in order to reach all my students, and they thrive, not because of me , well maybe a little, but because I give them the tools necessary, and a supportive and loving environment. My motto is never say never... We don't know the potential of our students, We must give them a chance to thrive. You may be surprised at what they can do! I feel like a proud mama when they reach a goal. My only hope is that they leave me being happy and loving school!
